According to their own wordings "Canada has a carefully managed and controlled immigration program that is committed to
maintaining a balance of 60% economic immigrants and 40% non-economic immigrants (family
class, refugees, and those in need of protection). Amongst non-economic immigrants, priority is
given to spouses/partners and dependent children."

Clearly shows that priority is given to spouse/partners and dependent children among all other categories.

so it is NOT an assumption!!

Could you please post the link as to where you read this? Thanks!

Hello all,

Thanks for starting this thread. I got married on July 15, 2013 and I will be submitting the spousal sponsorship documents for my wife very soon.

I have a question regarding the name change on my wife's passport, adding my last name to hers. Shall we make this name change on her Indian passport before submitting the PR application?

The other option is to submit the application with her old passport containing her maiden name. Then change the name on her passport later, while her immigration application is in process. When she is required to submit her passport to CIC, she would submit the new passport containing her new changed name.

Can someone suggest which of these options is advisable.

Thanks in advance,

Kind Regards,
Nilay
Hi Nilay,

Congrats on your wedding first of all! :)

Secondly, about your name change issue, I got married in Feb and what I did was stuck to my maiden name and current passport and applied, because we wanted to apply asap. I still dont know how i'm going to end up changing my name to my husbands once i have my PR in hand. Though its not really a "Must-do" for either of us!

I would suggest that if you can get the changes made to the passport and any other related documents in about 10-15 days through tatkal, then go for it.

Anyway with this strike our applications end up getting stuck in the Delhi office, so If you are ok with waiting to apply for sometime, I'd say no better time than the present! Atleast it will make things eaiser once your spouse lands and will have the new name on the PR card.

Please think of both choices....but here was my 2 cents! :)

All the Best!

Access to Info is $5 which you need for GCMS notes
Privacy act is free but is only for Canadian Citizens ( not for the sponsored person )

Check my sig for video on how to order if confused

My Wife is a Canadian citizen. So can we use Privacy act to get my PR application status. Is it neccessary to pay.

To request my details, is it neccessary to give my onfo other than file number. CAn UCI be her ID

Privacy act is only for Canadian Citizen - so if she wanted to order notes for Canadian Citizen then its free, but your are not thus have to go via Access to Info

She has to request on your behalf and you need to give her signed consent form

# @ Gupta : Does ordering GCMS delays our processing of File ?
According to me, I dont think there will be any impact on processing of the file. How ever last week, I was talking to a consultant in Toronto. That lady told me not to apply for GCMS.. infact she told me not to do any thing... I feel she was just trying to scare me and make her business out of it... I personally feel there will not be any impact on the file. I already applied twice and in mid of this month planning to apply again.

Hi

We got married in Nov 2012 and I applied for my wife.
I received an email from CIC on 26 Feb, 2013 saying that "I have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor. Accordingly, the Application for Permanent Residence for me has been forwarded to a visa office DELHI for further processing."

Than we received another email in March to send the her passport to visa office in New Delhi. We send the passport on March 24 by speed post. New Delhi received the passport on March 26. After that there hasn't been any updates on her file. Nothing has been updated on the application status.

Does anyone know how much longer it will take.

Thanks,

Strike is a major concern at present. Our Bring Forward date is August 15, 2013.

According to our MP finding, our file is in waiting queue for final review and decision. I don't know during strike we may expect any news from NDVO. Our Medical expiry date is getting closer.

So no news..nothing in the media regarding the strike...as if nothing is happening...hmmmmm..interesting.
