Guess what guys, Harper's PR Team has replied to me. I feel great about this. Let's get all of you to write sorrow-filled letters and be constructive rather than crying out here.

I would like to acknowledge receipt of your e-mail to the Prime Minister.

Please be assured that your comments have been carefully reviewed. I have forwarded your e-mail to the Honourable Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, and the Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, so that they may be made aware of your concerns. .

Thank you for writing to the Prime Minister.

Mr. Harper Sir, It is great that a regular citizen can voice their opinions and suggestions directly to you, I am sure you may not be receiving this message directly but it is most likely handled by your PR team. Anyhow, I would like to begin my story in hopes that you may understand and take some sort of action. I, unlike many other Canadians have married a lovable wife abroad in my country of origin. This is a great way to maintain family ties and a sense of culture to my roots. I face a great pressure in life and that is of unifying with my spouse who is living abroad. Now, it`s a great thing that as a Canadian I have this freedom and can exercise this right to unite with my other half but the wait times are just very frustrating. This is beginning to affect my temperament , my outlook on life and my decision-making abilities everywhere (work/personal/family). I would like to sincerely appeal to you to resolve the on-going strike with best action and intentions as Canadians like myself at home are suffering, especially spousal applicants who just want to be with their spouse and children. Because of this strike, visas are not being issued and applications are being held in queue for I don`t know till when. Mr. Harper, I trust this is an appeal in good faith and you may be motivated by the situations of many other Canadians like myself who are hoping and praying that this strike may be over with swift grace and that we can finally move on with our lives by uniting with loved ones. We are all tired of being in limbo, we need this strike be over.

Sincerely, **** ***

I wrote to the PM Minister also and got the exact same reply.

any ppr or DM guys???

Guys... the strike is NOT OVER yet. The response from govt doesn't change anything. They've presented an offer to the union with some conditions attached which their lawyers are currently reviewing. PAFSO is extremely stubborn and will not let this fight slide so easily. They could not have chosen a better time to strike as they can hold the govt hostage to their demands as it creates a LOT of pressure and disrupts work for visa offices worldwide - plus with the summer wedding season, the backlog is only getting WORSE day by day. At some point, I do feel bad for the workers that will have to process a HUGE amount of applications in record time, I'm sure they want to do their jobs but PAFSO won't let them.

I just hope clearer heads prevail and they get some sense and call it off using arbitration or this will drag on until the fall. Its ridiculous how from their comments they claim to be on our side, but by striking they clearly couldn't care less about us. The govt should not negotiate, but again, it has to get resolved sooner than later. My wife's story is not unique, as all of us are in the same boat with our spouse's passport stuck in limbo for months. I've applied for GCMS notes, so let's see the outcome of that. No prayer will end the strike, it just needs to be solved asap. These people need to check their ego's at the door and hammer out a deal that is satisfactory to all parties, most of all US!

Very well said, and yes you are right the strike is still on.

23 July 2013 - Statement by the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers: Government's Response to Offer of Binding Arbitration
Shortly before today’s noon deadline, PAFSO received a letter from the President of the Treasury Board responding to our offer of binding arbitration.

As he has stated publicly, Minister Clement has agreed to PAFSO’s offer of binding arbitration subject to “certain conditions”. PAFSO is reviewing these conditions and will follow up directly with the Treasury Board. PAFSO will need to assure itself that any arbitration mechanism allows for a full and fair hearing of arguments on both sides – an objective we are sure the Government shares.

PAFSO appreciates the Government’s attempt at finding a resolution to this dispute and remains hopeful that a responsible way forward can be agreed upon by both parties. Until agreement is reached, there will be no change in PAFSO’s job action measures.

PAFSO will update our members, the general public, and the media once we have more information to share.
