First of all, Congratulations on getting married! It's a long process so it's great that you are planning ahead.
Here are my tips/suggestions:
1. Learn to have lots of patience, because you don't want to be pulling your hair out with frustration at the antics of the NDVO and the MP and their lack of information and response to your questions.
2. Email, Skype and/or call your spouse everyday if you already don't. So you can collect records of all that interaction like phone bills, email printouts, etc.
3. Download all the forms and look over the questions to get an idea of what types of questions will need to be answered (don't print them because they can change the forms next year so you don't want to submit the old ones or they will return your application). You can fill in most forms on your computer. Download the latest forms before you go to India to get married as you will need your spouse's signatures on some of the pages.
4. Find out where the nearest medical office is to your spouse. There are only specific places that can do your spouse's medicals. Also what is needed for the PCC ( police clearance certificate)
5. Take lots of photos with your spouse... Before the wedding, at the wedding, after the wedding, honeymoon, trips, visits, outings, shopping, etc. Don't forget to take photos that include extended family members like parents, siblings, grand parents, friend, aunts, uncles, and the entire town of people invited to your wedding...lol
6. Be actively involved on your forum because you will receive great advice and encouragement from all your fellow members who are in the same boat. And you will make lots of friends!
It's a good place to start... For now. Good luck!
