Actually there are 3 copies of CoPR, according to an official document.
1 copy without photo is yours
1 copy with photo is cbsa copy - cbsa officer will keep it in cbsa records.
1 more copy with photo is kept in cic registry. The photo on this one is used for printing pr card.
At the time of landing, carry the 2 copies. Cbsa officer will ask you to sign both. She'll keep the one with photo and update their records that you've landed. Cic office will automatically start your pr card application. It will be mailed to you in ~2 months.
