Hello all

I appreciate your help.

I'm a PR and I landed 18 months ago. I just got married in my country. Now I have a job in Canada to start on Nov 1st. My wife applied for TRV and she was given 5 years multi entries. She will apply for study permit when she enters Canada.

My question is:

At the immigration counter, Would she and I declare that we're partners? (I'm afraid that they might refuse her entry or restrict her stay length)
Or should we not enter together?

Thanks in advance

Khalid

It is not unusual for a newly married partner (your spouse) to arrive in Canada on a TRV. The sponsorship process takes quite some time and a lot of people use the TRV to live together. My advice:
1. Do not lie or give misleading information to he immigration officers.
2. Provide honest answers which usually makes sense.
3. Show that your spouse has ties back to her country so that she would go back after the visa expires (for the purpose of TRV).
4. Show that you intend to start the process of sponsoring her once you arrive in Canada.

Irrespective of the length of time the immigration officer stamps on the ppt, you can apply to extend the stay a month or two before the actual expiry. This extension usually gives enough time for the sponsorship process to be completed.

Thanks a lot for your explanation. So what should we tell the immigration officer? that my wife is gonna spend one month in Canada then she has to go back home because she has a job and I'm gonna start the sponsorship process? I'm afraid he will give her only one month stay? Although her TRV is 5 years multiple entries.
