Hi,
I sponsored my wife's PR and she landed in November last year. She is conceived now and we are thinking of having the delivery back in India. I am not citizen of Canada yet and I guess I or my wife (or both) will have to sponsor the baby. How fast the sponsorship will take? Is there any complication in this? Would appreciate any advice in this regard.

Thanks.

Well if born in Canada she is a canadian citizen by birth. If you go back home to have it then you will have to sponsor her just like you did your wife its just that you and your wife will have to fill it out and sign it yourselves as of course she cant sign it.

It will be a lot less complicated to have the baby in Canada. Why do you want to have the baby in India?
The processing should be a bit quicker than your wife's time. They do try to do children's sponsorship faster.

If your wife's delivery is planned in India due to personal and family reasons, for getting more care and assistance from home / parents, it is well and good. Formalities for getting PR for baby can be started immediately after the birth, which is not a difficult task.

Thanks for all the replies.
Yes, you are right Wilson. It is mainly for the assistance from the family support and care.
Is there any special category and forms to apply for the baby's sponsorship? If yes, can someone point me to the relevant information?
Thanks.

There is no special way to sponsor the baby. It should be pretty much like when you sponsored your wife. The only complication is that as a PR, you must be in Canada to sponsor so you will probably have to leave your wife and baby in India to go to Canada yourself and do the sponsorship.

Babies are often denied a TRV under these circumstances because the baby will probably not be leaving Canada again. Sometimes people have been allowed to get a TRP for the baby (ministers permit) to bring it to Canada if a TRV has been denied but you would have to deal with the embassy about that.

Thanks Leon for your reply.

We are thinking of another plan that we will bring my wife's mother to assist her during and after the delivery. Our only concern is that my wife has a young brother who is 6 years old. He will also have to accompany my mother-in-law. What are chances of him getting the visa? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If they can show sufficient ties to India they should be able to visit for a specified period of time to help with the new baby. No guarantees, all they can do is apply. But if family/job/home is all in India, they should be able to show that they do not intend to stay permanently in Canada. It will probably help to have a letter from your wife's doctor showing that she is indeed having a baby, and the expected delivery date, to support your mother-in-law's request.
