Hi All

Ive joined this forum hoping to get any kind of assistance from you all, with your respective knowledge and experience with the Canadian Immigration Process.

I have applied from outside Canada, as my wife is in India and im here in canada.
I was approved as sponsor, and her file was accepted by New Delhi consulate on 5th September,2013.
On 10th November they sent us a mail asking for us to submit her passport.
2 weeks back we got a mail saying it has not yet reached the stage of initial review.

My question ;

My wife is an Educator and has to travel to the USA for 2 weeks, But the passport is still with the Canadian Embassy in new delhi.
1) Is it a safe bet to ask for the passport back, knowing that initial review has not started
2) What is the process for submitting request to get passport back?
3) What is process of re-submitting it again ?
4) Are there people here on this forum whove had this situation before?

Would be grateful if any of you could provide any guidance.

This is New Delhi's repsonse to something similar I had contemplated

Dear Sir/Madam,

This is in response to your recent email enquiry to the Immigration Section of the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi.
If the applicant or dependents are currently outside of India, or have upcoming or frequent travel outside of India, they are not required to submit passports at this time. However, if they are not submitting their passport with the other items requested, they or their authorized representative must submit a letter explaining why they are unable to submit their passport. When the processing of the application has reached the final review stage, we will send a second request letter. Once the applicant receives this letter, they must submit their passport by the date specified, failing which the application may be refused.
Please note that waiting for a second passport request will delay the completion of processing of the application.

The visa(s) can only be issued by the visa office where the application is in process and cannot be transferred to Canada or any other visa office for visa issuance. As well, Indian law prohibits the sending of passports in and out of the country by mail or courier.
Once the applicant submits their passport, they will need to provide a mailing address in India to which their passport can be returned by Registered mail after the visa is issued. If that address is different than the address currently on file, they will need to submit an original letter, signed by them or their authorized representative, requesting a change of address.

A trusted friend, relative, or agent may send, through the secure means outlined above, from within India, their passport to our office on their behalf. However, please note that it is the applicant’s responsibility to send the passports to our office in adherence with international law and within the deadline which we have given for such submission.

Applicants can check the status of their case on the CIC website by clicking on Client Application Status. For actual processing times of permanent resident applications in New Delhi for the last 12 months, please click here. Applicants may also refer to our website, www.india.gc.ca, for more information about processing times.

We trust that this information will be of assistance.

Thank you for ur reply

Did you go ahead with it then?

Also, re-submitting the passport also has to go through an agent? (we had hired an agent for this process)

My only primary concerns are this :
We are Sept 2013 applicants. I was approved as sponsor in August 2013, and her file was received by NDVO (as stated on CIC website) on 5th Sept.2013.
I was browsing thru the New Delhi 2013 Applicants and someone mentioned that now instead of 13 months they r clearing out applications in 8-9 months instead, and that Sept 2013 Applicants are next in line.
Asking for the passport back at this stage, and PRIMARILY the whole process of re-submission and then delaying the whole process by an indefinite time, im not sure if this gamble is worth it or not?
Any suggestions / feedback would be appreciated.

I agree. While the timeliness of your wife's visa issuance is a personal matter, for ME also, it wouldn't be worth it.
