Hi,
I am on closed work permit and it is valid till Nov 2017 ,but my assignment ends in Jan 2017 ,I have finished one year in canada and will be applying PR this month or early next month..Can please someone let me know if there is any way I can stay in canada after my assignment ends in Jan ?Is there any way after getting my AOR I can get open work permit ?As I understand to be eligible for Open work permit the existing wp should be due to expire in 4 months ?Is there any way I can convert my closed wp to open?Please help ...

if u get ITA before ur present WP expire...and u apply asap after getting it
on the basis of AOR of PR application u can apply BOWP
u can legally stay

As I understand to be eligible for Open work permit the existing wp should be due to expire in 4 months
u can do it...becuase ur still in canada

You can remain in Canada as a temporary resident until you work permit expires. You do not have to leave because your assignment ends. But of course, you cannot work until you get a new work permit, either.

Officially, the BOWP requirements state that the old work permit must be due to expire within 4 months. However, some people in a similar situation have written a letter of explanation about how the work ended (or will end) before the end of the work permit, and have had the BOWPs approved. There is no guarantee that this will happen in your case, but you might consider trying it.
