I am married to a Canadian citizen and have been residing in Canada for 3 yrs. I am 7 in a hlf months pregnant with my first child and I would like to have my medical before I give birth. Recently I called to check on the status of my application(Again), being that its been a yr in a half since I applied for permanent residency. They told me its over the time limit and they are going to write them and find out why it's taking so long. They asked for more information in the past we worked with immigration and they are satisfied with what we provided. I was wondering if there is anything We can do to find out why its taking this long? Can we get in contact with someone other than a representative? Thank you.

Did you apply Inland or Outland?

One thing I can say is that you cannot have your medicals done before you give birth. No doctor will consent to perform an x-ray on a pregnant woman. However, you can have everything else done, and have just the x-ray done after you give birth.

I applied inland. And my medical is done, you can have a chest xray after 3 months of pregnancy, I had an ultrasound done at 20 weeks and my baby is fine. Is there any reason why they are taking so long?

LOL! I [almost] did the same thing...thinking the OP was asking about the `medical' exam.

I now think she means that she needs medical coverage.

It depends on where she lives, since provincial requirements differ greatly!

I know few female applicants who were pregnant and done X-Rays with a protection shield, I am personally against doing that but people are so much frustrated cz of this long processing time that now they do not bother by doing that. When I went for med the doctor offered me too to use protected shield but I denied. So it is not a hard n fast rule that you cannot do X-Rays during this period, it is totally up to the will of the applicant.

I forgot to mention that I am in Winnipeg Manitoba and the only way you can get medical is if you have a work permit or a study permit or if you're a resident. I at least want the first step done so that way I can get a work permit and apply for Manitoba health. But its taking extremely long :(

There's a strong rumour that CIC is changing the requirements for an OWP, for Inland PR applicants. If it's true, applicants will be able to get OWP with only your AOR (instead of waiting for AIP). This change is supposed to be implemented next month.

In BC, a person is `deemed' to be a resident as soon as CIC receives their PR application. Are you sure that there isn't a similar rule in Manitoba?

Hi, Thanx for the reply. I am not sure of any change in Manitoba. As of Now all i know is that I am still a visitor waiting to become a permanent resident. Do you know where I can find out if there has been any changes? I was also wondering if i should just go ahead and apply for a work permit?? Thanx so much.

Submitting an OWP now, wouldn't help you because until you receive AIP, you're technically not eligible. IF CIC implements the change next month, then you would be eligible, because you have already received your AOR... a lonnnng time ago!
