Thanks Amikety!

The reason I asked is just to make sure that before I go to Canada, I will have my medical here in Dubai. I will also apply for a US visa and hopefully will get one as well...by God's grace!

My employer has started working on the documentation... I am waiting for the copy of my contract and LMO. My employer is based in Toronto, Ontario. I have a relative in Toronto and will stay there while I process my application. God willing, I plan to be in Canada this coming August.

Would you have an Idea how long it takes for the work permit/LCP to be processed in NY visa office? Is there a possibility that an applicant is not called for an interview?

Thank you again.

You can check processing times here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp.asp

Please note the New York VO's website says it only processes applications for certain countries. I've heard of many people using it the office from other countries - but you will need to have legal status in the USA, even as a visitor.

1. Amikety is right, the consulate in Seattle is closed. You can apply in LA or NYC but you have to be in the US when you lodge your application.

2. The process actually is an applicant sends in the application (or bring it in). You are then sent a request for medicals. Others have done it fait accompli (medicals are sent together with the package, cuts the communication exchange time). But that was before. CIC has made changes but it's worth a try, I mean, sending the medicals together with the application.

3. If you're in the US, go to a DMP close to where you'll be staying. Names and addresses of DMPs used to be on the website. Haven't checked for quite sometime.

4. Used to be 3 months few years back.

Hi Job_Seeker!

I have some questions for you...hope that you'll be able to enlighten me. I believe these questions of mine have been asked before, but here goes:

Scenario: I am currently working here in Dubai. I have been to the U.S. and Canada once (both on single entry visas). I am planning to apply for a tourist visa (both Canada and US). I read somewhere that approval is faster when application is lodged while in Canada..but through the visa office outside of Canada (i.e. Seattle, L.A.).

Q1: Can I still lodge my application as a live-in caregiver in Seattle visa office while on a tourist visa in Canada?
Q2: Do I need to undergo medical and include the result in my application...or this is something the embassy would require after they received my application?
Q3: If medical is needed in my application, how do I go about it? Can I have my medical here in Dubai even without the request from the visa office?
Q4: Would you have an idea how long the application and approval process is..based on the experiences of people you know or you have encountered here.

I plan to stay in Canada for 2 to 3 weeks only.

Thank you in advance!

Mabuhay ka!

is it possible to apply under the Live-in Caregiver Program while in Canada as a tourist? If so, can the applicant submit his/her kit to any Canadian embassy in US, and stay in US or Canada while waiting for the approval? or are we going to file our application in the country of our origin?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

You can't go from tourist to worker by applying to "inside" Canada. You have to apply to your home country or the USA if you're legally admitted there.

If I go to Canada as a tourist, and I will be able to find an employer who can provide me the LMO for live-in caregiver position...then, I have to go to US as a tourist and file my application at LA or New York...is this what you mean?...is having a tourist visa in US same as "legally admitted" there?...thanks for you reply!

Thanks Job_Seeker!

Do i really need to be in the US to lodge my application in LA or NY office?....Can I just send the application package through Fed-Ex from Canada to LA or NY office? Reason I asked is if in case I was granted a single entry visa to the US, I can use that to enter once called for an interview. Whereas if I go there and lodge the application personnally, I have to stay there until I get a notification should my application is OK for further processing and if interview is required.

Thanks again.

Job_Seeker and Amikety,

Additional question about medicals. I called the accredited clinics here but was told that I need a request from the embassy. Results will be sent to the embassy after. How then can I include it in my application package? Also, how can I get a request from the embassy since I will only lodge my initial application? Is there a different request that I should mention for this kind of situation?

Thank you in advance for your great and helpful inputs!
