that's the only way inland applicants get the CoPR.
True, although it's more of a landing appointment, rather than an in-depth interview, like those that are called for an interview if there are doubts about the relationship.

However, some people have in fact been questioned (at length) at their landing appointment and have been denied PR....but I believe it's pretty rare.

Just because it worked out for you, does that necessarily mean it has no benefit? I understand that applications are being accepted every day even if people don't legally change to their spouses last name...but isn't it still certainly something that would look better, add to the case of a genuine relationship?
Changing her name will have no effect. It's doesn't help prove a genuine relationship, as people in fake marriages change their names too.

you spouse has already been approved as a sponsor. you can send the documents. it would mean they have to update their systems with the new names and re-enter all data. you will have to submit application forms with the new names. not just submit additional documents.
Incorrect. A sponsor name change is no big deal for CIC and there is certainly no need to resend all the forms and documents. A copy of the name change certificate is sufficient.

When we sent application, we cic that we would update with pictures from honey moon later (we hadn't gone on our honey moon yet when we sent application). So we thought we will send in some additional pictures, reciepts etc from honey moon and also other evens such as birth days, vacations etc during this time. I assume doing this is a good idea, or is our lawyer wrong here too?
There isn't really any need to send additional proofs unless CIC requests them.

Thanks. I will definitely do that then. How common is it that people have to go to an interview?
Interviews are not required unless CIC has big concerns about the app. The landing interview referred to by chakrab isn't really an interview; they ask a few basic questions and then you become a PR.

IMHO, I would not have another medical unless/until CIC requests one from you. It's not all that uncommon for the officer to simply extend the validity of the original one...which would save you the time, money and hassle.
Agreed. Wait for a request from CIC.

my mistake. i read somewhere on the forum that changing name required the person to submit the form again with the new name to match with the updated name on new passport.

If they do request one, the only delay will be whatever time it takes to schedule an appointment, since the results are sent electronically to CIC.

Just my $0.02
Oh wow really? I guess the big question is, how common is it? If they do it in 20% of the cases, its not too common, but if the do it say 50% or more, that changes the ball game.

Are you sure it wouldn't take longer than that? They have to take time to write up the request, send it out, once its received they have to look at it again, etc...i mean they are not really fast workers it seems.

I appreciate your help. But why give out information like its an absolute fact when you "read it somewhere on the forum"? No disrespect at all, but these things has to be taken more seriously.

Please tell me I didn't mess up by updating the address the way I did.

i didn't tell you anything wrong. only thing is that i mentioned to send more documents. none of the people giving information here are absolute facts. it's based on experiences heard from others in the forum. in fact i have been telling you that changing name for sponsor is not required which was backed by canuck. you kept insisting that that would be a benefit.

I am not saying that everything you have said is incorrect. But your statements about updating the entire application was not. If you have seen it on CIC website, then by all means, but if its something you just have read on a forum or something that you have heard, I would suggest to add "I think" or "I have heard" or similar. It is more than appropriate.

"There isn't really any need to send additional proofs unless CIC requests them."

What about the fact that we wrote in our application that we will be going on a honey moon in the next few weeks and that we will update them with pictures? Does that change anything? Also, our representative accidentally wrote that we are planning to have kids soon, which is not true, so we wanted to update them that its a typo.

What do you think?

If it will make you feel better, you can send it. But as I said, if CIC needs more relationship proof, they will ask. Whether or not you are going to have kids doesn't make a difference to the app, so no need to say anything.
