Hi good day to all.

I am new here and tried to read some forum but didn't see any answer that give me clarity on our situation.

I am living here in Hongkong as permanent resident and have met my gf here, we're now running for 12 yrs living together. She work here as domestic helper. But since there's no chance for the same sex to get married here and for her to be resident, she went to Canada to work.

So my question is how can we get married there? She's in Calgary and has working permit and work in the house also as domestic helper ( I don't know how they call it there.) She Has no friend yet to ask for this matter.
What are the things that I need to do? Or she need to do? Where to go? What documents to prepare?
Can I possibly go there on a tour visa and get married there while staying there, then come back in hongkong and wait for her to be resident so she can sponsor me as her conjugal partner?

Please help, I just really don't know how to live far from her. Any fast legally fast way for us to be together I will do.

Thank you and hoping for replies.

First of all what passport do you hold? Make sure you assess yourself if you need a visitors visa to go to Canada. If you don't then great you can come visit her here then get married. If you do information is on this link on how.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/tourist.asp

Now when you arrive here, you can 2 can get married here in Calgary.

First you need to get a marriage license, easily available at any registry all requirements on this link. Need to pay a certain fee for that. Every registry is different but about 80 dollars plus the amount of how much a marriage certificate is which is I think $40. (Not sure, cause I forgot.lol)

You need to be both present in getting the license.

Anyways after you have obtained the license, the registry agent will advice you on how to contact a marriage commissioner.
It is now up to you to set a date for the wedding day. Could be a simple ceremony it's up to you. Ranges for commissioner fee is about $250-$350, they all have different rates its up to you to find one that fits your needs. Most of them meet up with the couple before hand to see what would you like to do and what will happen on the wedding day. Make sure you takes photos and stuff cause you will need this for the sponsorship application as proof. anyways after the wedding and you sign the marriage contract, the commissioner will now forward this to the vital statistics Canada, hopefully asap. and it will be 2-4 weeks from the date the commissioner submitted the documents, that you will receive the marriage certificate in the mail.

Your then wife can now use this to apply for a sponsorship application for you even if you are outside Canada at this time.
She will not be sponsoring you as a conjugal partner but as a spouse (wife).

Unfortunately I have to be honest that even after you get married the sponsorship application will take quite a while maybe more than a year, or depending on the visa office processing your papers.

I suggest you find a way to get a work permit here as well. So you guys can be together sooner and maybe do an inland spousal application. So you can stay in Canada while waiting for your Pr.

Ps.Sorry, It totally slipped my mind that she is not a PR yet so you have to consider the VERY LONG wait. Sounds like she just got here and need the experience first to get the PR. and then apply for her own pr before she can even sponsor you.

So best way for now to be together is for you to find a way on your own to get here.

Goodluck!

Thank you for your advise, this will definitely help us.

Just want to add, after getting married, would there be a problem if I come back in Hongkong coz I think I could only get a 6 mos tourist visa? And then apply for tour again stating I have wife in Canada. Because I think she can only sponsor me after 2-3 yrs. would there b a problem going in and out of Canada as tourist, even I get married already?

When you are here, you can apply for an extension of the permit.(not guaranteed you will get approved) But You may also have a problem getting another visitor visa when you come back to hongkong, because you have a wife here. Unless you can prove to them that you have stein ties to your home country or country or residence. For example, long term job, properties owned, family members, if your in school there Etc. I would strongly suggest that while you are here. Look for an employer that has An LMO. So you can apply for a work permit. Lower skilled jobs like kitchen helpers and food counter attendants or servers are easier to come by. That is if you have experience with that sorta thing.

The funny thing is because you are now married the more problems showing up when applying for a new visitor visa because the cic will think that you will not leave canada or would want to stay longer than your permit because of your wife, unless like I said you provide sufficient proof of strong home ties.

I understand now. Thank you for your help.

I need to discuss all this to my gf, and decide which one is better. She really insist for me to wait for a year or so until she got settled with all the things there like house and necessary things. She was always on a safer ways, smooth and no troubles.

Thank you very much and God bless.

What is your girlfriends status? If only on a work permit she can't sponsor you for a PR visa to Canada.
