Need a lil help here!!

Am a six month pregnant mom and just received my landing papers..
I would like to know if there is
1. Any such insurance company that covers maternity. (if no)
2. if i happen to have a baby b4 3 months will i be reimbursed by the govt.
3. Is it possible anyway that my health benefits start sooner than 3 months.

Actually the problem is i have to hassle my travelling if I want to have the baby in Canada and get covered by insurance there..
But i need a lil time to close my matters here n then travel.
So looking for any possible alternates to avoid the hefty baby bills without the health benefits there..


Wud really be thankful for any advices...

it very much depends which province you will be residing in, and where your husband is a resident. Some provinces don't have the 3 months waiting period, some have a shorter one (2 months + remaining of the month).
Insurance companies rarely cover maternity if it happens before you start being insured. But you might want to look around.

Well, we had mentioned Mississauga on the application, so planning to land there.
My husband will be travelling with me and it will be first time for all of us.

Because you are in Ontario, you cannot have OHIP (Government Health Insurance) until you have been a resident for 3 months.
If you have the baby before that, they will not re-imburse you.
There is no way to start it sooner. You could look into private insurance companies but the chances of them taking you on when you are close to having a baby may be a little slim. Won't hurt to shop around.

Have already done my homework for checking out insurances that may cover my case, but didn't find any yet..
looks like don't have much choice, but to pack and move immediately..
BTW will be expecting our baby in the 2nd week of August..

Hello.

I wonder how it works when you first move INTO Canada (Ontario in your case) and then move to one of those provinces where the 3 month rule doesn't apply, of course you will have to prove that you intend to live in that province in order to apply for health care, in my case, Alberta, for example, the 3 month rule doesn't apply and you get health coverage almost immediately, if not, as long as you are moving "FROM ANOTHER PROVINCE WITHIN CANADA" but if you land in Alberta from else country then they make you wait before you can apply.

Im not quite sure how it exactly works.
I applied for PR in-land, was already living in Alberta, so the waiting rule didn't apply to me (or so thats what they told me at the registry) when i landed and applied for Alberta Health Care.

You might wanna check that, it could save you a couple ten grand for delivery.

Wow!!!
That sounds nice..
But can any1 suggest if I can land directly in ALBERTA while my papers mention Mississauga...
And if i move from ON to AB will the processing take time for transfer while i desperately wait for my medical..

it depends which immigration stream you came through. If you are being sponsored by your spouse, then it's a federal program and you can choose to settle in Alberta if you wish. The fact that you mention Mississauga in your application won't matter.

However, if you are coming through one of the provincial programs, then you can only settle in the province where you got accepted.

About transfer from one province to another one, I don't know the answer, sorry.
