Name Split in Passport, COPR and PR Card

Hello,

I am in the same boat where I have applied to BLS to split my single name as given name and surname on my passport. In order for the PR card to reflect this correction, is name change certificate mandatory from Service Ontario? I read some people saying that IRCC returned their application asking for a legal name change certificate even if it was just a name split. However, after reading manu.yoganand's case, it felt like an explanation letter with both the old and new passport copy is enough for IRCC to issue a new PR card with split names. Is my understanding correct?

Would this explanation work in your opinion?

"Due to an error, the name on my Indian passport was split from xxx yyy under the given name to xxx under given name and yyy under surname. I would like the PR card to reflect this correction. Attached copies of the both th passports for your consideration.

Please not that this request is not to legally change my name on the PR card but just to split the name as per the passport."

I will highlight the name split and the new passport with the old passport number in it and attach both the passport copies in the supporting document section. Hopefully this will be enough.

I appreciate your time and request your feedback on the above.

Thank you.

I had exactly similar case. First I have split the name in Indian passport. After that applied for PR Card renewal with both passports and LOE. Still waiting for my updated PR card.
I will keep you updated if my PR card has split names on it or same as old one.

Hey Guys, just wanted to let you know that I got my PR card, with the name split without any legal name change certificate or Letter of explanation. I just got my passport name split and applied for renewal of a PR card online. When asked 'Name you want to appear on your PR card.' I specified the split name exactly how it appeared on the new passport. No additional documents were asked. Good luck everyone :)

Hello, when you applied for PR Card renewal for name split is it required to have met the minimum 730 days requirement? I still have sometime before I complete the 730 days completion but my purpose of renewal is just to split the names as there is no separate option for name correction in the PR card. Any supporting documents to provide for this?

If it's a change of name replacement, no.

You'd have to check what docs they ask for change of name replacement.

Hi Everyone,

I am also facing the same issue with splitting the name on my passport. I live in Quebec. Should I get the name split on my passport done and apply for a renewal of PR with IRCC? Would they accept the application if I just change the passport and provincial ID's? Or is it better to get a court order with a lawyer?
I am in Quebec as well and want to apply for split name for PR card, I already got name split in my passport. What is the next step? Were you able to get it done?

Thanks

Has any Indian citizen done the name change in passport in BC? Indian consulate in Toronto has written on their website that they don't need any proofs for name split but BLS in Vancouver says that Vancouver consulate rules are different, you need 2 proofs from your province to do that.
Can anyone confirm?

Hi all, I have got my name split in my Indian passport. Do I need to apply for a PR card renewal application now or apply for a new PR card? For renewal they are asking me all the questions for travel history, work and address history for validating 1095 days.

Hey! So I have the same issue. Name on my Indian Passport: Given Name- AK, Surname- Blank. I came as a student and when I got my SIN they changed it to Given Name- Blank, Surname (Family Name) - AK. Now I have received my ecopr with the same details as SIN, but when I tried to update my SIN number my ID got flagged. So will I have to change everything? I received my health card tho. So not sure why not SIN number.

NAME SPLIT WITHOUT LEGAL NAME CHANGE IN BC
I just finished splitting my name on PR card in BC. Sharing the process if it helps anyone.
Step 1: Got my Indian passport fixed using 2 proofs from India. I was told that you need 1 BC proof with the name, I took my health card as it doesn't support empty surnames. But the personnel at BLS told me either 2 Canadian or 2 Indian proofs. Got the passport fixed there.

Step 2: Apply for PR card renewal. Applied with the documents and wrote that I am not changing my name, it's just bifurcation as my name was entered incorrectly when I made my passport and the full name still remains the same. Attached both old and new passport with highlighting the name.

I have got my new PR card now with the splitted name.

Name split in Quebec for PR:

I had one name on my passport in given name: XXX singh and Surname was blank . So here in Canada I used to have last name only and given name blank.

I recently got PR and then I applied to name split on my passport. Once I got my passport with given name: XXX and surname as Singh , I went to SAAQ to make that correction on driving license. So they fixed my name on driving license. Then in starting of October I applied for PR without ticking the legal name change option, I provided new license old and new passport and explanation that I just want to split it . Yesterday officer send me email that they recently issued my PR card, so can’t give me new , so he gave me option to send imm5451, I filled up and click on destroyed option and tell them the name is no longer good as my passport of provincial id ( I also cut my pr card and send them photo of that) , today in gc key I got update( final decision with date ; I think that mean they send my card for production ) then I check my biometric validity with singh as last name and that worked ( that means they fixed my name in system)

I hope this helps
