Hello Mokomori, me too have heard nothing from Nairobi. I wonder why it takes them so long to process the applications..? Why is the process to so slow?

The above link has all the information that you need. When filling in the forms you see a section where you need to fill in your close family members and there is a check box to check if you want to include them in your permanent resident application.

I think you can only include your spouse and children.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this. I applied for my PR in May-2013and my spouse got approved as a sponsor in June-2013. Sometime back in December, they sent a letter asking for police certificate from Kenya. I sent it to them & then sometime back in March this year, they sent a letter asking for proof of relationship. And then i saw through my ecas that they have now started working on my file in march.So i do know nairobi office is working. Though you have to be patient..its trying...trust me, i cant sleep at night i just worry about this everyday..Just a quick question...on my ecas it saysMedicals have been received...and i did my medicals in January 2013. I am worried that it is passed the deadline..do you think they will make me do other tests??

Sorry to hear what you are facing right now, but we are all facing the same situation.
However I would like to congratulate you for your application to be in process. I hope you will get your visa soon.
As far as I know your medical may be extended or you may be required to do your medical again. Lets keep praying and hopelly we will be out of this soon.

Hi guys

It seems Nairobi office are quite silent these days, and it is really disappointing that the ecas is not a reliable and many Visa officers don't update it regularly, you may see Decision made after many months of checking your status.

There is no doubt that frequent communication with the Visa office may distract them from processing files, if anyone is eager to know more about the file status you can order the GCMS notes, which is a tool used by the VISA officers and provide a details about your progress.
I recently ordered , still waiting for and it takes 3-4 weeks to get it.

This is what my ecas status shows for the last 3-4 months

Permanent Residence
1. We received your application for permanent residence on November 18, 2013.

2. Medical results have been received.

Thank you for the info on how things are moving on your side.
From what I can see on this forum all the applicants from september 2013 have got no news from Nairobi. Its very dissapointing.
Please let us know when you get your GCMS notes and the stage of your application as per your GCMS notes.

i am expecting to get my GCMS notes on April, 24th, i will definitely share with you.


Hopefully the visa officers are working silently in the background, it will be a disaster if our files are not yet open.
Though statistics shows that more than 50% of the applications are processed in less than 10 month.
and 20% of the application are processed less than 6 months and 80% are processed in less than 17 month that is a year and half(it is for those with no dependant child) those with dependant childs 80% of the applications will take 21 months.

Beside Nairobi Office used to be longest processing time Visa Office worldwide for spouses and processing time is now decreasing slowly it came down from 25 months (2010) to 17 months (2014)
Hopefully to be those lucky 20% whom got their visas in 6 months.

I was wondering how did you apply the GCMS notes, did you apply it through a third party vendor or you apply it yourself.
If you did it yourself did you send an email request to atip-aiprp@cic.gc.ca or you applied online via their website https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/

The applicant should be a canadian citizens and you should provide a proof of your passport or citizenship card. Otherwise application will be considered as incomplete.
This is the email i received when I applied online and i am expecting to get a response after 30 days as indicated below

Moreover, You should have a tracking number which is included in the acknowledgement email you received similar to the one below and then send an email for application update to atip-aiprp@cic.gc.ca with the reference of your tracking ID.


You have successfully submitted your request under the Privacy Act to Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

The information and documents that you provided will be reviewed and processing will begin shortly.

Please note that if you have submitted your request outside of regular business hours, the processing of your request will begin the following business day.

If your request is complete, it will be processed within 30 calendar days from the date of receipt, unless an extension is required. Extensions may be taken for limited and specific reasons, which are listed in the following sections of the Acts:

Section 9 of the Access to Information Act
