Thank you guys!
This is realy helpful. And good news, the process time for Nairobi VO is now 27 months instead of 29!!!

Fingers crossed for everyone who are waiting.
Stay positive, everything will go well.

Hope

Hope1 don't look at those 29 or 27 months, count for 8 or 9 months if you feel that your file has a wide breath of evidences. Those 29 or 27 are for difficult cases with not a lot proofs for their relationship. Hope for the best all the time. Stay blessed.

sent application may 5th wating ma husband lives in Nairobi waiting for answer

Wow it nice to see so many people positive about Nairobi VO. My wife uses the VFS for visitor visa because going to the embasy is not necessary.

But online it says the wait for the PRV is at 27 months average to complete 80 percent once the application is received.
Anything quicker then that is mazuri sana!!!

Be patient and strong, soon there will be news for the first step of your application. I haven't been lucky to read any news from those who have applied from the beginning of this year but my prayers goes out to all of us on this journey. We still have months of waiting and we`ll join our spouses soon. :)

Cheers

Hi everyone,
Hope that everything in your process goes all right.
I have a quick one: How do you guys update your timeline?

Thanks

under your profile, "forum profile information" (this menu choice is on left hand side). You may have to wait until you have 10 postings (I can't remember for sure).

cheers

as you can see on the left ours took approx. 5.5 months and that was with a couple of hiccups. the 27 months is worst case scenario(s) (ie: often takes longer if you require an interview).

best wishes.

Thank you CanadaN,

Let's try to be more active!!

not sure what you mean by be more active? do you mean on this particular thread? actually in general I am slowing down activity on the forum now that my wife had landed. I will check it periodically to ensure if I can help somebody I do :). If my experience(s) or knowledge can help somebody I will be sure to do what I can.

Hi There,

I know I am looking in the wrong spot but I am at a loss and hoping to gain some advice/direction.

I am a Canadian citizen and my boyfriend lives in Nairobi. We applied for TRV and were denied twice. So, I know that with our situation the best/only option is for me to move to Kenya for 1 yr (we dont want to get married just yet). My biggest concern about me moving is to make sure I am able to work while I am living there. I cannot find a straight answer anywhere... Do you happen to know anything on this - working in Nairobi?

Our plan is that after 1 yr living together, we will apply for a PR visa as we would qualify as common law.

Any assistance or advice you have is sincerely appreciated!!

Thank you!!

hello,

I wish I could say I was surprised at you being turned down for TRV. unfortunately, I cannot as we were also turned down 2x for TRV (even with support of my MP) and it seemed they didn't really read the applications.

anyways, what kind of job history have you got? any college? university? have you got job prospects in Nairobi? any reason to believe somebody there would hire you over a local? are you going to get a local salary or a foreigner salary? you need to answer these questions and then apply for a work visa in Kenya BEFORE you go. be careful if listening to somebody who advises you to go there on a visitor visa and then try getting a job and work visa. if anything goes badly it could (and should) affect your future common-law (or other) application for PR.

have you been to Kenya before? Africa anywhere? have you looked into Malaria pills and other immunizations? are your boyfriends living conditions what you are accustomed to and/or can adjust to? your body may not even be able to handle something simple as local drinking water for brushing your teeth. I don't mean to sound condescending, just mentioning things in case you had not thought about them.

anybody else have thoughts on PR application likely being more successful if married than common-law???

another thought you shouldn't answer to me but to yourself......living together and not rushing marriage is a great thought but if the applicant is the only one resisting marriage, I would question if I was being used to gain entry to Canada. as I said, don't answer me but think about it? maybe get some second opinions from somebody you trust (one of your parents maybe? you are never too old to seek advice if your parents are loving and sensible).

very best wishes!

Thank you for your response!

With regards to me moving to Nairobi and working - I am just in the very beginning stages. I have both a University degree and College Diploma and my work history surrounds hospitality and travel. I was not aware of an option of a locals salary versus foreigners salary as I really am not familiar at all with these options. My main question (before I start researching job prospects) is if obtaining a work visa is possible for me.

I absolutely agree about applying for a work visa prior to me going but I don't know and cannot find what the requirements are. Do you know of any websites and forums on this?

Basically I am not sure where to start from here ... and I really want to get started on preparing to move and work in Kenya with my boyfriend.

Again, I sincerely appreciate and advice/recommendation you may have.

Asante sana! :)

I googled this in a couple of seconds so it seems too simple to be the answer you are looking for? if that is true, let me know and I will continue searching when my time allows. having said that, this link is what the Kenya High Commission has to say about who can apply for a work permit. I would pay specific attention to the several times where it indicates things like "you must have a specific offer...blablabla"
