I was really worried about the small details before submitting my application. Being a PR did hurt me a bit. It prevented me from getting a job that I really wanted at the time in Canada and multiple jobs in the US. I never considered moving to another province until now. My citizenship application was the reason why I avoided moving.

However, lately I gave up the fear. I got married in 2012 to my wife in her home country (Latin America) and got my marriage certificate from the consulate while on vacation in Mexico. I am sure it confused the CIC. Right now, I am trying to move out west. I don't care how long it will affect my citizenship application. I am kind of sick of the situation.

eileenf, I really appreciate that you're trying to have PRs stand up for their rights and what not, but in reality its much more complicated. It's like asking someone to stand up to their rights in front of their boss at work when in reality no one does because it would hurt their career. Regardless, I am one of the people that don't care about the CIC putting me under scrutiny. I call once every two weeks and I keep putting the agents under the fact that lots of applicants are getting their citizenship in less than 12 months.

But if applicants want to practice their precautions, I would'nt criticize it.

thanks for calling ;D ;D please also remind them there are too many of us waiting :p :p

Thanks Keesio.

I totally agree! Both places have pros and cons.

I will miss Canada a lot once we move back to US.

I have thought over it again....it's a good decision :p :p :p :p :p
Its 7 years for PR application + 5 years living in Canada = 12 years of putting my life on hold.....Now I am in another race to the bottom with the never ending citizenship nonsense.....I say never again..

funny I was one year into getting my UK citizenship 5 years ago and I opted to let it go for Canada, I guess that's the worst decision I ever made

I know this is off topic, but am I the only one?

When I was 26 y/o, I lodged my application for PR. I had a boyfriend then, we can't really make decisions as I am waiting for my visa. I don't want to get married as it might affect my application. When I finally got the visa after 4 years of waiting, I no longer have a boyfriend. Lol.

Long time lurker (>2 years actually :D), but I SIGNED UP to reply to this post. Thats because, the same thing happened to me, except CIC still has not finished processing my application. I no longer have a girlfriend :'-( .

Your post reminded me of her. We loved each other a lot, which made me super sad to read your post.

I think if you love the person and want to marry a US citizen, you should
Doesn't mean that you need to apply for US PR
I wouldn't wait till your citizenship is done to get married
Getting married itself has no implication on your Canadian application
Only if you got married and are filing for sponsorship then MAYBE

Nguyentu2001,

Glad to hear your wife had a great experience.

Unfortunately my wife's was horrible. Doctor after doctor she saw were very incompetent. For example, my wife gave birth June 2013 and her doctors told her in November 2013 that she may have a thyroid cancer. We were waiting for the results of her thyroid condition whether it is cancer or not for almost 3 months, and then we get a call from her doctor's office saying to us that her pregnancy results are good in February 2014! She sent tests for pregnancy in August 2012 and she gave birth end of June 2013! We were expecting results on her thyroid condition not pregnancy results. I can write more but this is one example of sheer incompetence and no accountability. It is almost impossible to find a good family doctor. So we are stuck like in a traffic jam and we can't do anything except for being frustrated and waiting.
It seems to me in Canada, if you get a good doctor from the get go and you get referred to good specialists and it is mostly luck. But if you are like us and run into someone not good then you are stuck with bad specialists, long wait times, delays, gross incompetence...We tried so much to find other family doctors but most are not accepting and we have to wait until God knows how long, it is kinda like CIC application process but your health depends on it....I am glad to hear though that our situation is not indicative of the whole medical system here and that there are positive experiences....
I am not happy with the system either. When we found out that my wife was pregnant, we had an appointment with a doctor from Phoenix, AZ who was actually subcontracted by the government to fill in for doctors in Canada. He explained to me the system in a nutshell.

Canadian doctors get paid per patient. So the more patients they see the better doctors get paid. He was surprised that when he got here he was asked to see over 20 or 30 (don't recall exact #) patients per day. He refused. When he saw us, he took about 1.5 hours to talk to my wife to see how she's feeling and trying to understand her lifestyle. Even though it was basic Q&A, we felt that we've been watched over. Which we never got with Canadian doctors. This doctor showed me the list of patients he was going to see that day and it was about 4 to 6 or something like that.

Besides, it takes forever to see a doctor. This puts family members and patients under stress causing other symptoms to develop which consequently affects careers, family ties, friendships...etc.. It makes no sense that our country (I am already counting Canada as my country :p) is not willing to produce high end doctors. They limit spaces in medical schools and our government does not address our pesky medical system.

All these factors are indications of low quality service. Imagine if Canada limited the number of engineering students! Quality would take a hit. big hit! because engineers will be put under conditions and circumstances that are not suitable for an ultimate performance.

My view is: I don't like to risk my family's health. So I would rather have had the US medical system in Canada with all it's issues. (BTW, the Dr. that we saw was a Canadian citizen and a Canadian medical school graduate who practices his profession in AZ)

Actually doctors get paid per visit. So it is beneficial for them to schedule you 6 separate 5 minute visits than 1 30 minute visit. Great for them but crappy for us to make 6 different trips in to see the doctor. It's also why when you do something like a blood test, they will never tell you the results over the phone, they "need" you to come in to get the results. Even if it is something minor or everything is fine. It's easy money to them for you to come in so they can say "your results look good, see you next visit". They say that they can't tell you over the phone for confidentiality reasons but we all know that is B.S.

That is crazy!!! Unacceptable that doctor.
I am sorry to hear about your bad experience.
Best of luck with everything.
