Hi there,

I have a sister who has a daughter (my niece), they live in Colombia. My sister and her ex boyfriend are having lots of complications because he wants to take my niece with him, yet he has not helped her economically. This guy is not a good person and I personally do not like the fact that they are having this problems, I do not know how this guy is going to react because we know that when he lived with my sister before, he used to misstreat my sister. Since I moved to Canada, I have been helping my sister and niece, and also my mom who lives with them and takes care of my nice. Now I really want to find a way to bring my sister, but I cannnot do this now since I will start college in september. I wonder If there is a way she can use as a single mother who has family in Canada.

There are very few ways to bring over family other than parents or children.

You can apply to sponsor your mother in January when parent sponsorship re-opens if you have 3 years of minimum income or better. Your mother can include your sister on her application if she is under 18 (although I'm not sure if they allow that with her having a child of her own with the new rules). If your sister is over 18, there is no way your mother can bring her as a dependant unless she's mentally handicapped.

If you live in MB or SK, you can review the PNP family sponsorship options. No other provinces have these options.

It's complicated by the fact that the ex boyfriend appears to be claiming parental jurisdiction over the daughter.
If he refuses to allow the daughter to travel out of the country, it's possibly "game over" without a court order.
