You can go without your passport but be ready to get a RQ.

Okay, in our case who gave test at vancouver office, showed our IDs and test invite letter and gave the test and then after the test, we were called one by one for the interview (i think there were 8-10 officers who were conducting the interview) and during the interview the officer checked all IDs and passports etc.

I think the process might be different for other offices in different provin

What do you mean by RQ?

RQ means residence questionnaire.

They give them out to those that doesn't believe they stayed in Canada. So they will want more proof of being in Canada. Bank statements, medical records, school records, everything but the kitchen sink.

By the way my impression is that the recent RQ cases (Say after Aug 1st last year) are processed much faster compared to the old 2011-2013 disaster.

Is it acceptable to take a photocopy of every page of your passport and then taken the photocopies to the test if you are renewing your passport? You could then give CIC the original passport when it arrives back.

Example: A person makes photocopies of the passport on 31st January 2015 and after that he makes 30 trips outside Canada and in June 2015 he gets invite to appear for the test/interview and at that time the passport has been sent for renewal and person takes the photocopies of the passport during the interview then how would the person show the stamps/trips made after 31st January 2015? This way either the person has to pro actively tell the cic officer about those 30 trips or if the person hides it then it would be misrepresentation and remember if CIC digs that into future then it would be a problem. What if the person hides those 30 trips and then cic asks for the passport once it has been renewed and then gets to know about those 30 trips? Do you understand what the consequences would be?


By quoting the example above, that's the reason why cic asks for original passports in order to verify the stamps to ensure that the applicant has mentioned everything correctly in the application and as well as in the online residence calculator.
