Fathertee,
Thanks a lot. The interview was fine and lasted just 20 minutes. They questioned my work, my motives for relocating to Canada as well as my espectation in Canada. My wife was questioned an my daughter. Generally it was an interesting and friendly interview.
I am an IT professional (Computer Network Engineer). I am very sorry for the late reply. I wish you success in your aplication process. Cheers.

Congrats in advance Banky, i wish you the best. I applied in 2004. I know that before anything happens it will be in the region of 2008/2009. I am not in a hurry cos i know that i cannot do anything about it. I am an Accountant with over 12yrs experience in the field, and i know that my chances are bright. I really wish you the very best cos this our Nija is in a mess. God Bless you all.

lakuku00,

It does not really matter whether you use a lawyer or not neither does it give you any added advantage but it is just that the fear of things not going the right way makes one to hire a lawyer.

Sometimes we don't just have the time and energy to fill those forms correctly and the service of a lawyer comes in handy otherwise lawyer or no lawyer the points stay the same without any plus or minus.

Hello Law, my bro, u get a long way to go oh. But not to worry, u can still make if you are determined. Just visit www.cic.cg.ca for a start. From there you will get to know what it takes to apply. From there you can now opt for a lawyer if u can afford it, if not you can still apply without one. For me, i use Campbell Cohen. Their law firm is good. The website is www.canadavisa.com.

Once again good luck, and mind you, don't give up, cos it is a worthy race.

my bros, law, most of the info you requested can be found on the website www.cic.gc.ca . for housing info, a room cost from $350 to $500 depending on the location/size/how many people you share with. a 1 bedroom cost from $500-800. jobs depend on your field of expertise and experience but generally your nigerian certificates may not help you. you can get a job ffrom between $9/hr to $15 notwithstanding. you can also start even now from Nigeria to take online courses that can help you in future when u get here.
Nigeria only has a consulate and Ghana has an embassy, that may be why we go to Ghana instead of Lagos ofr PR applications(i stand to be corrected).
Goodluck to you all. i just applied for my wife a few weeks back and i hope to learn from the experiences of everyone here.

I applied for the canadian permanent residence through CHC Ghana in April 2002. I had to wait till Aug 23 2006 before I got an e-mail that I should update my application by filling new forms for myself and family members. I sent all needed docs except IELTS before the deadline of 22 Oct 2006. This was bcos the exam dates in Nigeria were fully booked till Nov. I informed CHC Ghana about this development(in fact i forwarded the mail from British Council Lagos stating that I couldn't sit for the IELTS till Nov 30 2006). However, I sat for the exams on Nov 30 and got the results couriered to CHC Ghana and they acknowledged receiving it on Dec 29 2006. I got 8 in all the 4 parts. The problem now is that I have heard nothing from them since then. I sent a mail in March 2007 requesting for an update and no reply. How long is one going to wait again? The average processing time for CHC Ghana is about 61 months and i have already exceeded this time frame. Any advice will be welcome as I seem to be getting tired of the whole stuff

Bros, you have gotten to the last lap. I will advise that you wait a little longer. Don't worry by His special Grace it will be well. Just relax.

Fathertee,

Thanks for the reassuring note. I guess I was just almost losing my head over all the waiting.

Don't worry it is well. I want to ask you, how much did it cost you to sit for the IELTS exams, did you go for a refresher course?
