Few questions requiring immediate reply,

1. Cigarettes - can I carry two cartons (200 cigarettes each) while moving with the family! Do I need to include them in goods accompanying list !
2. Declaration of funds - if someone hands me over 600 CAD cash to be deposited in his son' s account in Canada, can i do it without having my account opened !
3. Free call service ! Is there any free call service available at persons international !
4. Applying for health card, a bank statement mailed to given postal address is needed. But i guess this statement won't work for my wife's health card but only for mine ! How about if I open a joint account, can a statement thus received be helpful to both of us for applying health cards !

5. Not true, if you are living in and want to end the contract you need to give 60 days' notice, otherwise no problem. Majority of rental office will start renting the apartment by the first day of the month.
6. For permanent apartment check the reply # 484.

I've used this company TorontoFurnishedRentals (dot) com and they are very good. They offer about 60 apartments throughout the city of Toronto and all the apartments look exceptionally nice.

thanks for details, I tried twice during my stay, but for proof of residency they insist on either driving license or bank statement mailed to my address, will make it next time inshAllah.

Hi Hasni,

Ontario id is not compulsory at all - i believe canvis2006 has suggested that you issue it for your wife to fulfill the OHIP proof of address requirement for your wife - (as the bank statement will not work for her - since its your account)/ also most probably the rental agreement (if any) will be on your name.

Another option for her would be to get a driving license - only G1 would be enough (note they accept only the license "card" - which normally arrives in around 2 weeks after the G1 test date, and not the paper which you get immediately after passing the test).

Although you are already back from your landing, but i thought this info would be helpful when you're back to canada again.

although i haven't tried that, but according to the below it should fulfill the OHIP proof of residency requirement since its a joint account bank statement and will include both your names and your address.

Sort of like a driver's license, for those who are not able to drive, or those who need an official ID and who don't drive.
Not everyone has a car or needs to drive in Canada.

I don't know why Ontario makes it such a pain for new immigrants. Why does every family member need to provide a proof of residency?
Why can't the husband's bank statement be enough for his whole family.

Do the children have to come up with their own proof of residencies in order to apply OHIP card?

children don't have to come up with their own proof of residency, just their id's are enough to apply for ohip (i.e. passport and copr or pr card)
