Hello Meme,meemee said:@ NThompson,
Hi there...great job you're ding in this forum. Couple of questions please. I recently applied for the FSW 2014 scheme and got my MR.
I applied as a HR manager. I have a masters degree in HR from the University of Liverpool, UK and a professional HR certification from USA. Gt about 6 years full time HR experience too.
In order to prepare for the canadian job market...would you advice getting canadian-specific certifications? Though i am somewhat confident my current qualifications should help a bit...what are your thoughts?
Sorry for the delayed reply but I hardly check back here as often as I used to
To be honest you will be fine with your current qualifications and experience. This might sound abit harsh to people who are not from the UK or have experience and qualifications from the UK but Canadians highly look up to us and you have that on your side you won't need to do any additional certifications from Canada as that won't really benefit you much unless its a requirement.
I see tons of HR positions going over here as well so you will be fine. The moment you open your mouth and say Hello my name is ..... They instantly fall in love with you and you lol.
Also its sad to say but I thought Canada was high on qualifications so before I moved over I did a bunch of courses and guess what........ They favor experience over certifications here and a lot of the jobs will state a certification but if you have 2 years and above experience its a big chance you will land something. So certifications over here is not as important as you may think specially if your from the UK
