Since my brother is going to study for 4 yrs in Canada, my mother wants to visit him often (especially during exam times). FYI: I tried to convince my mother it is not necessary and my brother can look after himself.

Anyways, now my mother wants to visit Canada during the 4 yrs period as she wishes. What is the difference between Multiple entry visit visa vs. Temporary Resident Visas in that respect. Each visit, she will only be there a couple of months. I am not sure which one to apply for.

1. They are the same thing, TRVs come in two flavours single entry and multiple entry, your mother applies for a multiple entry. Multiple entry are now what is usually issued.

But there will be a limit on how long she can stay for each visit and she can only re-enter after a certain period of time? Bascially, if she chooses, can she stay in Canada for 4 years fully?

The reason I ask this is because, I read that in USA, if you want to stay for extended period with family to help domestically, you need a special type of visa. One example citied was mother wanting to stay with her daughter during pregnancy & nursing.
