It might take a little time for them to reply but the waiting period will be calculated from when you arrived, so you might be eligible before you hear from them. I suggest calling in a few days and asking about the status of your application.

Wait time is landed date ( remainder ) + 2 mos so if you landed on Jan 25, your coverage starts April 1
MSP usually sends bill just before coverage starts

What's being happy about being covered with MSP? They'll soon be charging and billing you hefty premiums.

To answer the OP's questions, they usually do reply around the time you become eligible for MSP coverage.

To provide you with an example of our landing and subsequent MSP application:

We landed on 21 Jan 2014. Applied for MSP in the next few days. Received letter from Health Insurance BC on 21 March 2014 saying that some of my family members* will be eligible for MSP and that their coverage starts 1 April 2014.

*me and my sister were not deemed eligible to be included in my parents' MSP plan as we are above the age of 19.

You are screwed if u dont have insurance....try and deal with a doc as pvt patient, some wont even look at pvt patients even if u pay cash..some specialist wont even accept u..u wanna take a risk for a lousy 60 odd bucks a month. You can ask for assistance next year if ur unemployed this year

If you were in ON, you dont pay premiums as its bundled in taxes which is 13% HST but in BC you pay 12% (GST PST)
