I recently got a job in US and will be moving there soon. However, I just submitted my citizenship application in January 2014. I have no difficulty meeting the residence requirement, since I have stayed for more than 1400 days before I submit my application. I am wondering: 1) Is it better for me to change my address to my friends' address within Canada or should I change it to the US address? Does it make a difference? 2) Will I get a RQ for sure in this case? Thank you for your help!

I am not the expert law. This is just what I think.

As per current rules it should not be a issue. But with the new law Bill C-24 it may be hard to prove that you intend to reside in Canada if granted citizenship.

(c.1) intends, if granted citizenship,

(i) to continue to reside in Canada,

(ii) to enter into, or continue in, employment outside Canada in or with the Canadian Armed Forces, the federal public administration or the public service of a province, otherwise than as a locally engaged person, or

(iii) to reside with his or her spouse or common-law partner or parent, who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and is employed outside Canada in or with the Canadian Armed Forces, the federal public administration or the public service of a province, otherwise than as a locally engaged person;

Thank you. But if I submitted my application already (in Jan 2014), will the new claus "intention to stay" apply to me? Thanks --- I always thought that the new law only applies to people who apply after a certain date!

It would appear you are correct, but nothing is certain yet; we will have to wait and see how and when they plan to implement that particular clause. Having said that, I think chances are that it won't apply to people that already applied.

Technically it should not matter but people who moved to the US after applying for citizenship seemed to have a higher risk of post-test RQ even before bill C-24 was proposed.

U will get ur citizenship b4 the new law take affect, which is in approximately a yr

CIC does not send correspondence outside Canada, so you would need to use an address in Canada.
