Moving from US to Canada

I am just looking for some advise on this, I have googled it and haven't been able to really find any good answers.
I moved to the US from Canada (I was born and raised in Nova Scotia until I moved here!) a few months ago, my husband lives here, originally he was going to move to Canada, but his schooling is much cheaper here so we plan to stay here until he is done with school (about a year and a half left), so this isn't going to happen for awhile, but I'd like to know what it would involve when it does. I know every detail about the US immigration process, but not so much for Canada. So my questions are:
Once he graduates, if he were to find a job in Canada, and we were to move there, what would we do? Should he apply for Permanent Residency in Canada, or would a work visa be better? We don't know yet if he would apply for jobs here and hope to get one, and then move, or if we would just save up and move there and he would apply for jobs when we get there, so we are just thinking about what would be the easiest way.
How long does it take to obtain Permanent Residency when you apply out of the country? What about compared to a work visa? I am just looking for the easiest way for us to get back to Canada ASAP after he graduates, so I am really hoping he can get a job in Canada once he graduates...I miss it a lot. Thanks and sorry if this has been asked a bunch already!

if you are married, sponsoring him for permanent residency in the family class is the best option. Obtaining a work permit is very difficult, and it's not necessarily "permanent". As a canadian living in the US, you would need to prove your plans for moving back to the us upon his approval as a permanent resident. definitely research this forum for more info on that.

If you choose to move back first, he can apply OUTLAND (which is the only way a us citizen should consider applying) while his is in the us, or even if he is in Canada as a visitor. He can even stay in canada for the duration of the process by extending his stay if need be. As an outland applicant, he will not be able to get a work permit. He can work remotely for a NON Canadian employer. He legally will always be a "visitor". It's never a good idea to suggest he is "moving" or "living" in canada until he gets PR approval.

Current us applicants are landing in 5-7 months time. It's difficult to predict if the timeline will stay the same, or go back up. All us applications are processed in OTTAWA, so don't go by any statistics on the immigration website for LA/NY processing. Applications only get sent there if there are issues.

Since it doesn't seem like you intend to move back any time soon, there's no point in applying yet. At this point, you can at least do the research on the Canada Immigration website, and take a look at the guide and application forms. Also, it's suggested to start compiling proof of your relationship, pictures, receipts for wedding, trips, gifts, etc. There are a ton of threads on this forum about US/Canadian couples, so researching on here will help guide you.
