Hi All,

After an issue with my mother's visitor visa was resolved, now there again is an issue with my mother-in-law's visitor visa.

My husband and myself were sponsors in her case. My husband in a Post graduate work permit that is valid until August 2016 and me being a PR.
We applied for my mum-in-law's visitor visa recently and got it approved for 6 months. Her purpose of visit was to visit my husband and myself. The length of the trip was for 3 weeks.
My dad-in-law and sister-in-law are in India. My mum-in-law is a home maker. We showed financial documents and assets of my dad-in-law's as my mum-in-law is completely and financially dependent on him.

With this background, though we had applied for a multiple entry visa, she got it approved for 6 months. She was supposed to travel next weekend (August 16,2016). But unfortunately, my dad-in-law met with an accident and injured his leg. So she has to stay back to look after him and she might not be able to come during this 6 months that she has been granted.

Would we be able to apply for an extension, even if she doesn't come here within these 6 months ? or is it advisable for her to come here for 2-3 weeks later within these 6 months and then apply for extension?

Thanks.

She needs to apply for a new visitor visa if she doesn't come to Canada within six months.

Ok. Thank you. Is it advisable for her to come here for 2-3 weeks later within these 6 months and then apply for visa? or is it ok even if she cannot come within these 6 months and later apply for visa ?

This is OK. Plans can change all the time, it makes sense for her to be attending to her husband.

It's probably best if she applies for a new TRV instead of visiting on the current one/applying for an extension

Though we had applied for a multiple entry visa, she has been granted a single entry visa. I understand that it is completely up to the officer to decide what type of visa to give for an applicant.

In her case, could it because of her son's (my husband) work permit expiring this August 2016 ? or could it be bcos of other factors like family and financial ties ?

It would be better to have an idea on this as the next time when we apply, we can make sure that the issue can be addressed. My husband is eligible for a 3 year post graduate Work permit. But he was granted only for 8 months (till the expiry of his passport). Hence he has applied for extension. So we are expecting that his work permit would be extended by late August or early September.

The 6 month visa is basically the time she can stay in Canada, it doesn't mean she has to travel with in 6 months of visa issue date, I f i understand it correctly. so she can travel once her husband revovers.
