We finally have some movement! January 30th, 2017 Application. We got a request for a medical exam today because the one we had submitted expired. There doesn’t appear anything else to be completed. The eligibitly for my husband isn’t done yet, nor is the background check started. The CIC agent suspects that his PR won’t be completed in time, possibly maybe in the spring he surmised. I’m glad they’re finally looking at our file, but saddened that it’s going to be several more months before PR approval.

Maybe they are going to start getting around to the apps that were submitted earlier in the year.....fingers crossed

Fingers crossed! I wonder how long it takes to complete the background checks. I understand that is the lengthiest portion of the process.

I applied in Sep.2017. And yes your app should be done by now offcourse. You can inquire the CPC-Miss by calling them and they may tell you whats going on.
But at times due to Dec holidays things do get slow. Now in Jan they will again get fast hopefully and your file be picked up and will be completed.
But please do give them a call (assuming your VO is CPC-Miss)
Why are you saying it should be done by now?! It's expected to take up to 12 months. Just because one or two people's get done quickly doesn't means everyone else's will. Isn't your application is being processed in London??

I've been lurking around gathering information so that I can submit my Husband's PR application. He is American, we have a 9 month old son together. This forum and this thread is giving me some hope thank god!

I haven't sent his application yet because I am in the dreaded waiting period for my marriage certificate. I literally have EVERYTHING else.

Can someone explain to me what a PPR is? Will he have to send them his actually Passport when we get to that stage? This literally scares the shit out of me... We had planned on doing IN COUNTRY but then after a trip to Pittsburgh Canada wouldn't let him back in because he had been here for too long and told us our best bet was to file OUT OF COUNTRY instead.

So here I sit.. a giant, organized, depth of personal information and documentation sitting on my desk waiting for the freaking Marriage Certificate.

<3 thanks again for giving me hope

Passport Request, personally we never got PPR. In your circumstance you will likely be asked to submit a photocopy of the passport if you are asked for it.

This confuses me... I have to include a copy of his Passport in the application.. why on earth would I have to send one again?

You don't always, like I said they didn't ask for ours...but you have to send the photocopies and two more pictures if they ask, it's part of the process and part of getting the PR card set up

No clue how long it takes. I am hoping the background check has started and just isn’t updated in gckey. Seems like with Mississauga bgc starts and it’s dm within the week

Our GCKey changed to BGC in progress like two weeks ago. We haven't had a pre arrival email yet. Prepared for everything to take a long time.

Have you tried calling them?

Yep. They are always useless. I am waiting for my notes Friday

We were told when we called CIC today that the background check had not been started. And on the gckey (cause we were finally able to link our application today), nothing looks done aside for the sponsorship approval. I wondering if it’s possible that they’ve started the background check, but haven’t updated their system? And my husband is from the USA, so I’m not sure if Mississauga would process the application since we were told initially that Ottawa was the VO. Our file hasn’t moved from Mississauga. I’m so confused. And the CIC agent indicated that it’s unlikely that the PR would be completed by January 30th. Possibly in the spring he said.

Figured I would share this in the hopes it might ease the mind of those who are waiting and unsure about background checks at Mississauga VO.

I submitted a request for my GCMS notes at the end of November and I got them a couple days ago. They were pulled on December 6. (My background check started in GCKey on December 20th and I got DM/PPR on December 29th, which, with the holidays, was just 2 or 3 business days later).

Had I still been waiting for background check and/or DM when receiving my GCMS notes, I would have been so discouraged by the notes. They literally contain nothing. Eligibility - not started (and no notes about the legitimacy of our relationship); criminality - not started; security - not started. The notes made it appear that after sponsor approval, my application had not been touched.

Obviously, my entire application wasn't processed in 3 days... This leads me to believe that the Mississauga VO just isn't entering updates in GCMS like the other VOs necessarily do. So if you are waiting on BGC to start or confused by lack of updates in your notes, you may also go from seeing no movement to seeing the whole damn thing completed in just a matter of a few days. Try not to be discouraged by GCMS notes or lack of BGC in progress. They very well could be working on it and you just have no idea. Yay transparency :p

Thank you so much for sharing this! My husband just got a message to check his gckey (where you link the application), and now it shows medical results as passed although they requested that we complete a new one this morning. And it shows that the BGC has started! I’m just jubilant right now! We are on hold with CIC to check if we need to complete a new medical because although we received the email this morning, the gckey says it’s passed.

Judging by my notes, other then info sharing, nothing had really been done since it left Ottawa on July 17. Hopefully they are just not updating the notes and are actually working on the app
