Hi. My oath is on jan 16 and I already missed it. Here is what happened.

We moved to a new apartment last december. Last november, I applied for urgent PR card renewal. In the application I put in my new address. On ecas, my address for both citizenship and PR card renewal changed to the new address automatically. The PR card renewal was quickly approved and I got the the in the mail from my new address. But today my mom went back to our old apartment to check if we got any letters. Sure enough there was this letter from CIC asking me to appear for oath. The letter was dated Dec 30 2014. But how could they send it to the old address? The new address was in their system last november! And I got the PR card in the mail at my new address on Dec 5. How could they send the letter to the old address on Dec 30!!! UGH!!!!! I am so pissed.

I will have to call them and let them know the situation. If I explain this to them, would this be a valid reason? I really just want to get it over with. It is such a pain to work with the government.

Can't give any solid advise, but here is what it says on the oath invitation letter, as you probably already read:
We look forward to welcoming you to the above Citizenship ceremony. If you cannot attend the ceremony, please contact CIC within thirty days of the appointment. The Citizenship Act contains provisions which declare and application abandoned if applicants do not respond to a notice to appear with a reasonable explanation for not being able to attend.

So rationally I think you have a good explanation, and it's still with 30 days, even though it's after the ceremony date.
I don't it means " 30 days before the ceremony" in general, since my invitation was given to me 14 days prior to my ceremony (and there were fair amount of people got the same invitation after finishing their tests).

Either way, call 1-888-242-2100 and explain the situation, it is definitely not your fault that they mixed up the addresses.
Hope you get this sorted out soon. Good luck.

I would even suggest going to your local office with the missed Oath invite and talking to them about the situation. You may be able to get in touch with one of the COs.

Call CIC immediately and tell them that your mail went to old address, that is why you have missed the oath. Sure enough they will issue a new oath date for you but it could be delayed. Also you could go the oath location and try if they allowed to take oath or reschedule it, I heard one person was late and they reschedule him for next available one. You can try your luck, you never know they might reschedule it for you there. Good luck!

It's not your fault but you need to act fast. Call them TODAY and explain what you just said they will reschedule your oath.

Mails for CIC states "Do not Forward" thus Canadapost can't forward it.
