I would like advice on how to handle this scenario regarding Canada/US crossing records.

I know for a fact that we drove to US for some same-day cross border shopping on October 5th. The US stamp in passport listed Oct 5th. I ordered I-94 and CBSA records. Both I-94 and CBSA records show that we entered US and re-entered Canada on October 6th. I thought the CBSA would be more accurate as it would actually record the entrance into Canada on the 5th in comparison to US records.

When the time comes to apply for Canadian Citizenship, what date should I put in the application. October 5th (the stamped date) or October 6th as recorded in both CBSA/I-94 records. Will CBSA assume we left on October 5th as per US stamped and entered Canada in October 6th as record show. US I-94 record says we entered US on October 6th.

Any suggestions on how to handle this?

I would stick with the actual day of when I left and came back. CIC acknowledges that there may be slight variation on dates. If you are in ball park range (which you are just a day off) mention your actual date and not what CBSA has jotted down.

Very complicated. I hope some expert can advise.

What i can say is stick to the truth because if you write the dates printed by CBSA and CBP records and in case CIC asks you for the proof then you won't be able to provide the proof.
If you provide actual dates then you can show them the proof like credit card statements etc.

Just my 2 cents.

That's an excellent suggestion about the credit card statement. I can go online and confirm the dates.

Thanks a lot.

You can also show your work records (day offs, attendance, vacation etc) as a secondary proof.

Yes that is correct but you van show your Monday's sttendance record to actually how that you were back to canada.

It is always wise to give few days of extra time to apply for citizenship like 2 weeks to 4 weeks buffer

The credit card statement would verify that I was right on the date. However since this is for my wife, the credit card statement is useless as it is in my name only.

I just checked the online I-94 records on myself and it does not contain any record of me entering US in October with my wife. Strange. I would hope that this would confirm the error on US part. No help there.

One other option is to request my own CBSA record and compare the two dates.

Was she using your credit card or the supplementary credit card?
If its supplementary credit card, then it will state her name on the transactions.

She doesn't have any name to my US credit card. I used my US credit card to avoid exchange rate charges.

You're obviously not talking about this year, since October 5 was a Sunday. I assume you checked a calendar and confirmed that the 5th landed on a Saturday that year. It's easier to understand the stamped date being wrong (someone didn't change the date) than both the CBSA & CBP records being wrong.

I should have mentioned that it was last year, 2013. Not this year. So it was a Saturday in 2013. But didn't think the year matters as its the day that matters.

Do you think you may have returned after midnight the same day? Which is technically next day. Yes you definitely have to use the 5th, this is the day you entered and it was stamped. If you are going to get worried about it when you apply for citizenship then explain that you found a discrepancy between the actual and recorded dates and that regardless of that you are applying with more than the required 1095 days.

It was the same day trip. We drove in the morning and came back in the evening. We had kids with us so we couldn't really stay overnight.

Here's some advice: Don't get worked up over one day. Give yourself a window when you apply so it won't matter. But I will say it again: the border records are not always accurate or complete. If you don't want there to be any discrepancies, then just report your abscences as the days the records show--of course, then you are not making a truthful declaration to the best of your own knowledge.
