800-1000 for rent for 1 bed flat
150 for hydro
500 for groceries
100 for Ctransit monthly pass

? for home broadband

Please comment if am missing anything.

I think your budget is reasonable, however it is limited to the basics as you are aware, nowadays rents are a tad cheaper in Calgary, you can even find a 1 bed room condo in downtown Calgary for 850 $/month, however you will need some feedback from people who are physically living in Calgary to answer about the easiness and availability of minimum wage survival jobs.

$800-$1000 for rent for 1 bed flat https
$150 for hydro
$500 for groceries https
$100 for Ctransit monthly pass https
$50 for Mobile BYOD (call + data) plans http
$55 for home broadband https
-----------------------------
Total $1655 - $1855
Minimum wage $13.60 x 40hrs/week x 52 weeks = $28288
Take home salary = $23600 yearly ($1966 per month)

I should add that you may get something back from the government if you are classified as low income, this should improve things a little.
