Can someone tell me how hard is to get minimum wage jobs in Calgary.
Plus is it possible to break even your monthly expenses on those jobs.

It's tough if you don't want to have roommates (to share the rent/hydro/internet/snow removal) in a leased house.

It would depends where you work. For example, if you work in 16 Ave NW (Trans Canada Highway), you definitely don't need to live in the city centre (which rent might be more expensive). You can live in other parts of the city either by walking or public transit.

Just to let you have an idea of house hunting, you can check the website below for listings:

Come on dude..that's a simple calculation..40 hrs x $13.60 x 52 weeks = $28'288 annually

Minus tax roughly $3800..

If no washing machines provided by landlord, then either handwash by yourself (which is free :D) or take them to nearby coin laundry / laundromat

Re: Minimum wage jobs in Calgary

I think 2000 CAD per month will be expenses.

800-1000 for rent for 1 bed flat
150 for hydro
500 for groceries
100 for Ctransit monthly pass
? for mobile
? for home broadband

I am guessing on minimum wage 40 hr contact ( 24000 yearly take home), I can breakeven.

Please comment if am missing anything.

Hello Nokia,

I think your budget is reasonable, however it is limited to the basics as you are aware, nowadays rents are a tad cheaper in Calgary, you can even find a 1 bed room condo in downtown Calgary for 850 $/month, however you will need some feedback from people who are physically living in Calgary to answer about the easiness and availability of minimum wage survival jobs.

Hello again,

I should add that you may get something back from the government if you are classified as low income, this should improve things a little.

I guess you are talking about Working income tax benefit (WITB)
If net annual income is above $19,717 (which is lower than $23600) then for Single without children in Alberta, you wont get anything for govt.
I may be wrong but someone with more knowledge can share their views.
