It's tough if you don't want to have roommates (to share the rent/hydro/internet/snow removal) in a leased house.nokia3315 said:Can someone tell me how hard is to get minimum wage jobs in Calgary.
Plus is it possible to break even your monthly expenses on those jobs.
It would depends where you work. For example, if you work in 16 Ave NW (Trans Canada Highway), you definitely don't need to live in the city centre (which rent might be more expensive). You can live in other parts of the city either by walking or public transit.nokia3315 said:Btw can you give me an idea on what rent am looking for 1 bed flat ?
1.In city centre
2. Other areas with good public transportation links
Come on dude..that's a simple calculation..40 hrs x $13.60 x 52 weeks = $28'288 annuallynokia3315 said:1.What take annual home salary am looking at for 40hr contract @ $13.60/hour ?
If no washing machines provided by landlord, then either handwash by yourself (which is free ) or take them to nearby coin laundry / laundromatnokia3315 said:2.I see lot of adverts mention laundry room. Just wondering unfurnished flats dont have washing machines & do we need to pay extra for the laundry rooms.

I hope someone currently living in calgary can give some inputs about current situationSheran said:Hello Nokia,
I think your budget is reasonable, however it is limited to the basics as you are aware, nowadays rents are a tad cheaper in Calgary, you can even find a 1 bed room condo in downtown Calgary for 850 $/month, however you will need some feedback from people who are physically living in Calgary to answer about the easiness and availability of minimum wage survival jobs.

I should add that you may get something back from the government if you are classified as low income, this should improve things a little.
