Migration to Canada with Spouse through student visa

Hi there,

I am from India, I just got married and now me and my wife are planning to settle in Canada.

My wife has Bachelors degree in Computer Science and got 1 year of work experience in Software Testing.

I have a Masters degree in Computer Applications, and i have 1 year of experience in Mobile Application Development.

I want to know few things before we apply for Canada:

1. Which study/course is best for my me which can help in settling in Canada.
2. What are my chances on getting spouse visa along with my wife on student visa? When should I apply?
3. Can we both migrate in Canada at the same time?If not then how long my spouse have to stay here without me?


Please advice.

You have to check, but our friends moved like this.
You are getting student visa and she is getting permit to enter together with you. Then she separately apply for work permit since she has to work here while you study and you are not allowed to work full time if you have only study visa.

maybe just the words you have used but applying for a study visa you are not migrating to Canada rather you are applying for temporary residence whilst attending a college or university. Part of the assessment for a study visa as you can read on this forum is ability to demonstrate intention at end of study to return to home country hence the temporary nature of a study visa.

Others can comment but your start point in already having a masters may be a negative in applying for any post graduate course so worth investigating more if your spouse should be the main applicant or not for the study visa with you applying for the open work permit.

Cannot advise on which course you could select but IT skills are generally in demand.

Have you looked at how many points you get for express entry if your ultimate intent is to migrate ?

I don't entirely agree with this statement. The condition is the intention to leave Canada at the end of one's authorized stay, which may include any extensions of the study permit, and becomes indefinite if in fact PR is granted. The intention to also eventually apply for PR does not preclude a foreigner from coming to Canada as a temporary resident, so long as the visa officer is satisfied that he will leave at the end of his authorized stay.
