Hi,
My passport has my Given Name as <First name> <Middle Name> and Surname as <Last name> but some of my documents, ( ECA, degree certificate, bank statement, employment letter) omitt the middle name.

Will a letter of explanation suffice to explain this discrepancy or do I need a notarized affidavit saying both versions of the name indicate the same person?

I believe this is a fairly common situation. Has anyone been successful using just a letter of explanation?

Affidavit under oath will be better thing to do.

Seen many cases like these before. Mine is also like that. I have 6 names on my Egyptian documents, as we use a patronymic naming system, writing names as (yourname) (name of father) (name of grandfather) (name of great grandfather) ........
We have nothing as "last names' in our Egyptian systems. Therefore, I use the name stated as last name on my passport as a last name, every person in my family has a different last name.
All western systems (I am in Canada) use just my name + my last name. I just described this in the LOE for OIPNP, and now to CIC. This was the same case for many friends. Also, the best to do is to state your birth date whenever possible on any document.

My passport and diploma had my middle name, but bank accounts, work contracts, and reference letters didn't. I did not do anything about it, no letter of explanation, not affidavit, and got my PR with zero problems or questions. I was never even asked for additional documents after my initial application was submitted.

Birth Certificate: LAST ABC DEF
Employment Records: ABC DEF LAST
Tax Records: ABCDEF L

So I got a 'Person One and the same' affidavit (India).

I'm not sure if just a LOE would suffice. Generally difference in name has to be supported by a legal document such as an affidavit.

you should be fine.. LoE should be sufficient..

i had similar issues with middle names of both, me and my wife..
one of my educational degrees even has my mother's first name added to my name!

my wife's passport has only her first and last name only while many of her docs (including our marriage cert) has her father's name as middle name..

i just explained all the cases in the LoE and wasn't asked for any clarification..

Mine, I don't have my middle name on my CoPR...assuming my PR card would be the same....I'm worrying if that could be a problem when having trips outside canada...

Any suggestions please...

I'm the opposite - my marriage certificate has my middle name but my passport doesn't. Haven't had it questioned so far.

Hello Sir...

I have got my WES report recently and waiting for next draw with CRS 437

My name on the passport is
Surname: Trivedi
Given name: Amitkumar Rameshchandra (First + Middle Name)

Now, on my WES report name is TRIVEDI, Amitkumar.

It doesn't include the middle name/father's name

Please help....Should I be concerned?

Hi, In my case we use first name ,middle name and two last names (usually father and mother last names) in my country, however I lived in the US for a while and since there they only use one last name I have some of my documents showing only one last name (eg FBI records).

I am planning on adding a letter explaining the situation under the "Legal Name Change Doc. (required)" section of the documents checklist.

Does the following seems like a proper explanation?

"Dear Sir or madam,

I,(full name with two last names here) I am writing this letter to explain why I indicated that I used another name while entering my personal information, which is (First + MIddle + (only one) Last name here).

The reason is that I used to live in the United States between YYYY and YYYY, and due to the fact that the most common naming convention in that country is to use the First Name, Middle Name and only one Last Name some of my personal documents such as my FBI records use that naming convention.

Please consider this explanation while examining my documents, because some of the documents generated by United States entities will not show my second last name.

Regards,

"

Hi,
I am going through the application process and find myself in the same situation; some of my docs (US docs and my job's reference letter) list only my first last name while others have both (passport, diploma, etc). I am wondering if you ended up adding the clarification letter and if your process went smoothly or you took another approach.

Thanks in advance!
