I agree and I’m definitely not saying application with kids should be faster but 17 months and little update? I don’t have kids but I can only imagine it’s way worst than being separated from your spouse only. I get this is not normal times with covid but from reading past posts seems Mexico is always over the 1 yr period. Again I’m assuming here because I’m not sure if those applications from back then have issues.
Mexico is overworked that's the problem and the closing of Cuba Embassy at Havana has cause even more troubles. They manage too many countries. And they are backlogged a lot from pasted years already , so this + covid, let's say the 2020 wasn't a party for them.

They should close the program for 6 months on SPR (or redirect some apps to another vo at least) to get in touch and finishing the ones that are there waiting for months and months. but Canada will never do that for sure,. Is what the system would need at the moment

Instead they welcome all others new applications and put them in the queue which add even more work to Mexico's office.

My life been on suspend for 19months around before we got the file completed and arrival confirmed. Heard that Mexico have an average of 15-16 months around to be realistic. Obviously some exemptions may apply, that said i hope everyone can put this story behind them as soon as possible cause yes mentally and physiologically it's damaging i wasn't prepared for such battle.

Now i'm glad to be able to live that life , my wife is integrating to the society of Quebec and started learning french with MIFI.

So it seems most persons still waiting from 2018/2019... requires interview? Trinidad and Tobago’s borders has been closed since March 2020.... so I can see why it’s delayed that long (ofcourse they should have workarounds) but are there applicants who don’t need interviews and still waiting from that far aback?
We're Sept 2019 applicants, still waiting to pass eligibility and no word on an interview yet.

Ohhh ok thanks for responding! What country is the PA from?
He's from St Lucia :) And same @Leon.S every time we request an update we get the same response, including when my MP requests updates, and also when we requested an extension to the medicals for him and his kids (non-accompanying). They didn't even acknowledge what we were requesting.

thats exactly same situation as mine... September 2019, everything got sent over to VO and still pending for officer review.. what do they mean by eligibility? if we are already eligible to sponsor... mine is for CUBA- wife and son

They mean is the principal applicant eligible - by reviewing all your documentation do they believe it is a valid / real marriage.

Oh my gosh....

https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/1767870/immigration-canada-residents-coronavirus-frontiere

If you can read in french .. is a really awful situation...

It's totally messy !

Saying that validating your PR and come to live sounds now to be "Non essential trip" (Unless your sponsor already live in Canada)

Those ppl got accepted by the airline to board , SERIOUS ADVICE for new ppl getting PPR and COPR... i would validate twice with IRCC and CBSA before going. (Requesting a proof of acceptation and exemption at the border)

Such a fail ! Even if you have a PCR test negative, a quarantaine plan and all the correct papers.

I was reading this...definitely a nightmare...but wasn't new PR's advise that this would be the case if they are not related to someone already in Canada (spouse)? I feel like I've read that somewhere.... not making excuses though...such a nightmare!

Seems a big confusion with airlines...Yeah i think your sponsor has to be already living in Canada to be able to enter but it's not that clear and some ppl missed up at airports and get allowed to board and bam at the arrival... Still is a situation that can happen to a LOT of ppl so i wanted to share this if some are in the similar one!

So from what i understand Exemption is as followed :

Validate PR and Entry to Canada

-> PCR TEST Negative (72 hours)
-> COPR letter
-> Visa (IF required)
-> CSQ (if Quebec)
-> Quarantaine plan
-> Status
SPR - Canadian AND Live in Canada OR Already PR in Canada)
-> Yes granted PA

if you don't have all the following DON'T BOOK !!!

SPR - NEW PR (INTL) -> NO (Both are facing deportation)

If we already approved your permanent resident application
If you’re outside Canada
Note: If your confirmation of permanent residence (COPR) is expired, follow these steps.

You won’t be allowed to enter Canada right now if you’re coming to validate your COPR and become a permanent resident, unless you are exempt from the travel restrictions.

You are exempt from the current travel restrictions and can come to Canada if you have a valid COPR, and

  • the COPR was issued on or before March 18, 2020, or
  • the COPR was issued after March 18, 2020, and you are an immediate family member sponsored by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (note that grandparents are not considered immediate family members and cannot come to Canada at this time), or
  • you’re currently living in the U.S. and will be coming to Canada directly (transiting through the U.S. to Canada doesn’t apply)
To meet the travel restriction exemptions, you must also

  • be coming to Canada to settle permanently (you cannot come to Canada and leave to go live in another country, even if it’s temporary)
  • show you’re able to quarantine for 14 days
If you’re travelling by air, you need to pass a health check conducted by the airline before boarding a flight. If you show symptoms of COVID-19, you won’t be allowed to board.

So simply put here though....

Exactly they are just taking people hard earned money! They should be held accountable for things like this... because they shouldn't have even allowed tickets to be booked or even allowing them to board...they should also take them back to to their home country for free...

It's also the responsability of the new PR's to validate some stuffs but at least they should be turned back at airport when presenting their papers and not getting accepted at boarding
