Ok thanks for the information. Also just to clarify from my understanding the medical has to be done before you send in the application. Is this correct?

Yes and it can only be with one of the doctors listed on the DMP website. They just took out a whole bunch so I think now you can only go to mexico city and cuidad juarez. Not the most safest choices.. but what can you do :(

Thank you, yes my husband is going to Mexico City in two weeks for the medical. His family lives there but he is not looking forward to going back as it is not the safest. Thanks for your help!

I´m dealing with the ones in Mexico City right now. Terrible service through the phone, almost impossible to talk to them.

I am confused, when I look at other people's time lines it looks like people do the Medicals after they submit the application. From my understanding when applying from outside of Canada you submit the Medicals at the time you send in the initial application. Is this correct? Which doctor in Mexico City are you using?

The medicals have a 1 year validity, if you´re not in Canada by the time they expire you´ll need to get them done again (my case), althought as OhCanadiana mentioned before, if the medicals are the last thing to do and the decision is going to be based on that you can get an extension on your previous ones.

The 3 doctors listed on the website work for Medicos Especializados Internacionales, I called and they just schedule your appointment so I´m guessing whoever is available at the time will take the tests for you.

I am baffled and frankly a bit offended when people keep mentioning this old stereotype that Mexico City is unsafe. It's NOT. Unless you're planning to get weed and coke from a dealer in Tepito and then wander around Iztapalapa or Ecatepec, you'll be fine.

Murder rate for some global cities per 100,000 inhabitants.

New York 6.0
Los Angeles 7.5
Mexico City 8.0
Moscow 9.6
Sao Paulo 15.6
Chicago 19.4

So, unless you guys tremble in fear when visiting L.A. or New York, you'll do just fine in Mexico City. Just beware of ever stepping foot in Chicago, you might get shot as soon as you leave the airport!

Sorry for the rant, but don't listen to everything that people say. Mexicans are particularly guilty of spreading this stereotype about Mexico City, yes, your hubbies included.

Lol, I assume you are talking about me. Sorry if I offended you Edgar. In my comment I didnt say (or mean to imply) that Mexico City is very dangerous. All I was commenting on was CICs new choice of avaliable choices of where to get medicals done in Mexico. I feel that places that were taken off i.e Merida, would be a much more desirable location to get your medicals done compared to Mexico City and Cuidad Juarez. Actually, I wasn't just talking about the DF's crime rate (which I was actually aware of) I made that comment more on the idea of how confusing it would be for someone who has not spent a lot of time there and could wander into a very bad area.. since good areas and bad areas seemed to be mixed together in Mexico, which could be problematic (just like any other city)

and p.s My hubby never said anything about Mexico City being unsafe, ;) That comment was based on my own opinion. Considering he lived there and his family is from there, he has a quite optimistic view of Mexico city, but I have also heard other Mexicans state that Mexico City is unsafe.

Anywho, I am the first one to advocate safety in Mexico, sorry if I didnt explain my comment well.

I believe my comment may have also offended you as well my apologies. My husband is originally from Mexico City and his family still lives there. Curtains parts of the city are better or worse than others. Just like any other city. My husband is apprehensive about going back only because his families neighborhood has been having some difficulties lately.

Edgar and Mc1234. i just feel like chiming in lol

this is true, the usa is actually alot less safer than mexico city or mexico in generally according to statistics, weve researched this aswell lol.

But i do have to admit i was there for 4 weeks and i was in an armed robbery at a pharmacy around the corner from our house and saw a prostitue get her ass kicked on the street in just 4 weeks. two things i have never seen in my entire life. and keep in mind i lived in downtown vancouver for 4 years, where we have hastings street which is littered with prostitues, junkies, and drug dealers lol.

I guess its just bad luck for some people.
we went to some fancy areas in mexico city, like polanco and zona rosa and such and those areas i would feel safe all the time defiantly!!.

but where we were living by cuatro caminos, i didnt feel safe at all. so i guess just depends where you are in the city.
:)
some places i felt safe and others not at all.

dont get mad at me its just a personal opinion from my experience lol!.

Leisa,

Did you husband go to Medicos Especializados Internacionales for his medicals? do you know how much they charge? I´m tired of trying to get in touch with them.

As long as they get them very soon you should be alright. Usually they willy grant extensions - how did you contact them?

I email them to this email re-mexico-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca, but no answer yet...

yes, i have my appointment already but i forgot to ask the price. That is INSANE!!! the first i got in Guadalajara were around 1,000. Honestly that should be regulated

So it has been 7 weeks since our application was transfered to Mexico City, what does everyone think, should we hear something soon ? Should i send a case specific enquiry ? starting to get a little anxious !
