Has anyone had to renew there passport in mexico?
my husband needs to renew his passport. he has an appt in puebla on friday morning.

but we are not sure where to pay?
do we take cash to the passport office and pay there?
or is there a certain place we need to pay for it ??

thanks

You pay for it at a bank or via your online banking account - give your husband this link: http://sre.gob.mx/index.php/pago-de-derechos-de-pasaporte

really?
so what is the exact process than?
my spouses Mother went to the bank to pay it for him and they said she couldnt
so they emailed the passport office and this is the reply they got

"REQUISITOS DE RENOVACIÓN DE PASAPORTE MAYORES DE EDAD:
6. PAGO DE DERECHOS. Se realiza en efectivo o bien a través de tarjeta de crédito o débito al momento del trámite, no se aceptan billetes de $50 ni $100 dólares. (VER COSTOS DE PASAPORTE)"

which when i translate it. i am under the impression he is to bring cash to the passport office with him and pay there?
is this wrong?

or do we need to go to the passport office and they will give us a certain piece of paper to take to the bank to pay at the bank?

:-\

LeisaP - Usually when you pay at the bank you need to take a document with details on where the payment is going and other codes the bank needs. The instructions for payment in the link I sent you are from Mexico's Foreign Affairs Secretariat - the page has all the codes you need and the instruction sheets for the bank (the accounts and codes depend on length of passport you are applying for). Here's an example: http://sre.gob.mx/images/stories/imgpasaportes/hojaayudapasap.pdf.

Have your husband or MIL read through it since it's in Spanish and it will walk them through it in detail step-by-step.

ETA: The instructions to renew your passport at http://sre.gob.mx/index.php/renovacion/281 confirm this too. However, you could always swing by the passport office or have your husband or MIL call the appointment line to get the latest info. FWIW, most government offices don't accept cash or credit card payments directly (instead relying on banks or the Treasury to manage the books)

I keep hitting the refresh button in my inbox. Two weeks and one day already >:(

tbaxter, what state is your hubby in again?? We just found our local office for Cancun and we will be doing the PGR there.

Canadiangirl, I know you already found the answer to your question but I really recommend the Mexican store 'La Tortilleria' they have four different locations and make fresh tortillas daily, plus they have every kind of mexican product you can imagine! Your hubby will love it :)

Well, we sent hubby's passport on Friday. Now begins the wait for them to affix the visa and return it. He is very nervous waiting for it. I told him to relax :)
The letter says that it takes from 1 - 2 weeks to process it if we do it via courier (versus in person- same day).
