I personally have no problem with you both asking questions on here either. it is the same visa office and since there seems to be no one else from Costa Rica, you will probably get more valuable answers on here, rather than your own thread :)

Well, I feel sort of an "idiot" but I admit I've never sponsored a wife (or anybody for that matter) before so ....

Anyway turns out the Visa Office did actually sent an email, but to one of my wife's email addresses that we rarely check.. I thought all correspondence would be sent to my email but anyway...

So, they want:
1. Her Birth Certificate (which is straightforward)
and
2. Please submit an updated version of the Schedule A
Background/Declaration form (IMM 5669) for you. Please include
complete information since the age of 18 up to day, to cover all time
periods required in Section 8 (personal history) and Section 12
(addresses).
In Section 8, you must provide the details of your personal history for
all time periods since the age of 18. Furthermore, for all time periods,
you must specify the months and years covered by each activity and
indicate your occupation or job title if you were working, or otherwise
provide information on what you were doing (for instance:
unemployed, studying, travelling, in detention, etc.).

In Section 12, you must list all the addresses where you have lived
since your 18th birthday, specifying the months and the years. Leave
no gaps between the time periods. This document has to be duly
completed as you will not have another opportunity to do so
. If you
fail to follow these instructions, your application may be refused

....................................................................................

Now the problem is that we've filled thoroughly section 8 and 12 and I'm not sure what the hell do they want. The only thing I think can be a problem is that in section 8 we filled the last 10 years period and not "since the age of 18" as that what it says on the bloody application:

"Provide the details of your personal history since the age of 18, or the past 10 years, whichever is most recent".

My wife is 33 so i started from the present day and went all the way back to year 2000 (because that when she started her first job and it was overlapping with year 2003).. I guess I should've stopped at year 2003 or go all the way back to year 1997 when she was 18...but she wasn't working at the time ??? I don't know..

What do you guys think??

Section 12..
I decided to be more thorough and listed all her addresses since 1997.. Again may be I should have started at 2003 in stead..

Oh. and another thing that may be causing the problem. In the Postal Code/Zip Code section I put N/A as I've never heard of such thing in Costa Rica. Could that be a problem as well???

I read in some post of the forum that they have wrong the information, because when I was filling that form I answered it since 2003 in the personal information and in the address section, because they said since age 18 or past 10 years wherever is most recent.

Then I change it because I read post when they ask to submit the form again with information till the age of 18, but I don't know the reason while they don't change the instructions.

Anyway good luck, maybe other people in the thread know better about this, but it has happened before.

Hi there,

Anyone know if contingency plans are in place at the Mexican VO? I called our MP and they were hush hush about the whole strike thing.

Thanks and good luck!

I did the same with the postal code thing...in Jamaica they dont have postal codes they have parishes and with in those small parishes they have small communities call districts that have they're own small post offices...I wouldn't be too worried...maybe check where you would usually every now and then and see if they sent you anything...good luck!

the PGR does NOT have to be translated. :)

as for time frame to submit documents, they will tell you in the request email how many days you have to send in everything.
Just wanted to add to this. I've heard of people who have successfully submitted the PGR in Spanish without an English or French translation. We decided to translate it just in case.

Why did we do it?

When the Embassy emailed us asking for the PGR certificate, we noticed this bit of fine print: "Please note: Supporting civil documents and police certificates must be in English or French. If they are not, send a certified translation with a copy of the originals."

We know some Spanish-only PGRs were accepted, but this is probably a case of staff following their own practices rather than documented procedures.

If the gov't of Canada manages to keep service levels up at the embassies and consulates throughout the strike, they'll no doubt be doing so with the assistance of temporary workers/consultants from the private sector. It's possible these folks will follow procedure more closely because they come from a professional world that is more focused on performance. They could also lack the wisdom/compassion that the regular immigration officers have developed over time on the job.

That's assuming the policies/procedures don't change over time. Only months ago, you had to submit two police certificates: one from the PGR and another from the SSP. Who's to say they didn't rewrite their policies to be more strict about language requirements after they removed the SSP?

A lot of what I just said is speculation and it tells you a lot about my tolerance for risk. We decided to follow all of the explicit instructions as closely as possible. (It is confusing sometimes because some of the stuff they publish seems contradictory.) You have to decide your own tolerance for risk after reflecting on the available information. Asking for opinions here is a great idea and the knowledge people shared has saved my partner and I several months of delays. But there have been times where I decided to do things differently. Like here, where Leisa has more experience doing this than me and I admire her hugely, but decided to take a different approach. At the end of the day the Embassy doesn't care where you got your information because you are accountable for the outcome. I felt like it's important to say that because I'm noticing folks on this forum taking everything advice like it's the law.

Be sure to educate yourself as much as possible. That means reading lots! For example, read the guides on this page... they're long and tedious but important: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

I asked some other people as well that are already back in Canada, if there request for the PGR said anything about it having to be translated and they said no.

So im thinking since yours is recent and says that now, this might be something they recently changed. ???
