Got our PRG request today finally !!! The only other requests were for a common law declaration and the Right of residence fee. We are so happy today !!! We sent the pre-paid waybill last week so hopefully the PRG letter comes soon and my fiance will be making his way to DF Also going to be officially divorced this Friday after a 5 year divroce with my ex ! Its a good week !!!

Question about life after landing...

My brother's friend sponsored her American husband but he got deported after applying for "welfare" shortly after landing. We have no plan to apply for welfare but I am worried about what other applications might get us in trouble. I know I promised to support him for 3 years. But we did apply for the Child Care benefit and the Child Tax benefit - and I think that is ok?? - but what all are we NOT allowed to apply for or do because my husband is a new PR?

EI and child care benefit are not welfare, so you should be fine. No idea about others.

Wow! I thought part of being financially responsible for the applicant was to be responsible if they applied for welfare etc.. I didn't think you would get deported. That must be an odd case!?

I am not sure - I guess I should have read my sponsorship agreement better. But I do think he was deported because of the welfare - and not only that but banned for a few years. He is back now after a second application. I don't know all the details.

Yes this was my impression too I dont think you can be deported but I think you have to pay back the money you take from the government for welfare.. or well the sponsor is responsible to pay it back.. I think the child benefits are fine I have never heard otherwise.

I'm pretty sure nothing helps speed up the process. And if you're family class it's not really applicable. Are you just waiting for your PPR now?

Last part the worst part because you just have to sit and wait.... Our police certificates has been dropped in persona at the visa office on 25 oct 2012.... And we are waiting for the ppr its very hard to wait... im getting crazy cheking our emails and the ecas all the time... Any one have an idea of how mich we have to wait after handing the police certificates? Tks so much !

That´s what i figured. I´m just waiting for my husband´s sponsorship questionnaire and it seems it´s lost in postal limbo. They asked for it with the police certificates which have been sent already so after that document it´s just waiting for the PPR I guess.

The sponsorship questionnaire is being sent to you? Its not the IMM 5540?

Yes. The embassy requested a complete Sponsor Questionnaire (IMM5540) bearing an original signature.

I can just think of 2 reasons why they asked for this. When we sent the application my husband forgot to sign this form and he moved places while we were waiting for the AOR from Mississauga.

If it doesn´t make it on time, can I ask for an extension via case specific inquiry?

Well, he needs to sign it and he´s in Canada. and like a lot of couples im the OCD here and he needs to get simple directions. It´s easier if he sends it home then i forward it to the embassy than asking him to send it to the embassy and write the cover letter :S

Oh I just got what you´re saying. The form is being sent by my husband from Edmonton not the embassy.

Ahhhh ok, I was a little confused! Did he send it buy courier to you at least?
