Is there anyone else here that was transferred from the Guate office? Just wondering.... maybe we're the first ones :)
Welcome to the Mexico thread! Looks like applications will slowly trickle in:

"Effective September 1, 2012, the visa office in Mexico City is responsible for processing permanent resident applications from nationals previously served by the visa office in Guatemala City. Applications currently at the office in Guatemala City will continue to be processed at that office. Applicants will be informed if their application is transferred to Mexico City."

Question: I'm approved as a sponsor.(Canadian resident and Citizen by birth) Paperwork for my wife and step-son (Mexican Nationals but Costa Rican residents for many years) is on route to Mexico. We have already included the State and Federal Police checks that were ordered through the Mexican Embassy here in Costa Rica as we were originally going to submit through Guatemala. We picked them up through family in Mexico on a holiday. They were less that 30 days old when we sent them into CIC-M. We also have the Costa Rican police checks included. All have been officially translated with timbre stamps included. The question is: Are we going to have to redo the State and Federal police checks even though we haven't been in Mexico since we received them? They were done at the end of June 2012. Any thoughts or experience?

Congrats!

Police certificates are valid for a year (and CIC requests you send them so that CIC receives them within 3 months of being issued) so you should be fine with the ones you sent and not need to redo those (unless your application takes longer than they seem to be processing most of them these days). Do you know which federal Mexican police check(s) you sent - was it both the PGR and the SSP ones?

State police checks last time I heard are no longer being asked for applicants of Mexico City, it is now the PGR and SSP. If you have already gotten the federal one done, it could be one of the two. When you get AOR from Mexico City, they will send you with instructions of how to get any outstanding police checks your wife may need.. But no, the one federal police check you have (as long as it is the one required by the embassy) will not need to be redone.

We sent in the Antecedentes No Penales Estatal and the PGR. We thought that was what was required if you didn't live in Mexico.

You need both the PGR and the SSP police certificates (they changed the rules in May to require the SSP certificates instead of the state certificates).

The good news is that by submitting the PGR with the help of the Mexican Embassy in Costa Rica you've gotten ahead of the game (since you need a government request for that one most people have to wait until the Canadian Embassy in Mexico receives and starts processing their file to get the request letter).

The SSP certificate is issued in Mexico City so you can either have a direct family member go get it (sibling with the same last names or parent listed on her birth certificate) or check with the Mexican Embassy in Costa Rica to see if they will help you get it. According to CIC and to the SSP, the Mexican Embassies can request it on your behalf but not all of them are willing to help out in reality.

You can see additional details on the SSP certificate at http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/mexico-t35385.0.html;msg1618642#msg1618642 and the CIC website on Mexico police certificates at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/mexico.asp

Thanks OhCanadiana! Ours was transferred Sept 19th, leading me to believe we are one of the first :)

Quick question - does anyone have any advice for sending in extra evidence/information that wasn't asked for? Would this cause delays? For example, since filing our PR application we applied for and were denied a TRV. Do we now need to update our file with this info? If so, can I send this type of info via Case Specific Inquiry or does it have to be mail?

Gracias!

I think that sort of info would already but in their system, but I am not 100% sure. We submitted additional documents (more proof of relationship) about a month and a half ago. I am not sure if this delayed our application or not though.. lol.

Yes you can do that and the SSP now. Just make sure you have the file # which is on the Sponsorship Approval letter.

Congrats Eduram!
So, sorry I am sure you have all asnwered this a million times but we should send a prepaid waybill from DHL to the embassy quoting the file number sent on our sponsorship approval before the AOR is received to ensure we get the PRG letter faster, is this right ? and is there a specific address or department we send it to? How exactly is this done, does DHL send them the envelope or do we need to ? We would love to do anything that speeds us along :)
