There is a military office in every state. My husband says its best to do it in the state you're born if possible. I would suggest going there first to inquire and ask for the requirements.. you'll need birth cert.. photos etc.
okay thanks.
he was born in mexico city but he left to veracruz after getting out of the hospital and grew up in veracruz till he was 18.

so should he go to the military office in mexico city or in veracruz?

The military service is required when you are 18...unless you pick whatever colour marble that says you don´t have to....If you don´t do the marble picking thing at 18 then you have to do the military service.

I think some people got around this with a precartilla though.

I'm guessing Mexico city if that's what's on his birth cert. But you can try in Veracruz if that's easier. It just might be easier to do it in the state he was born.

it says

Cartilla del Servicio Militar Nacional, o en su caso, constancia de aplazamiento de la incorporación al activo (para varones mexicanos).

(National Service card, or where appropriate, evidence of postponement of entry into the asset (for Mexican men)

so i guess evidence of postponement will work.

now i have another thing to stress out about. i swear im going to go bald before i get back to canada :( :( :(

Sounds like that will work then (and probably easier to get). I know the paperwork is crazy!! Where did you get married? We got married in Mexico, that paperwork was insane too!! After this immigration I'm not dealing with paperwork from Mexico ever again. :)

apparently its hard
he has to apply for the military
than once hes in he has to request the postpone paperwork and leave the military.

im going to contact my consultant and ask her if theres anyway around this. or what we can do.
this seems crazy. and i dont want it to stop him from getting PR.

we arent married. we are applying as common-law so we havent had to get marriage paperwork in mexico. although i have heard its is a huge pain in the a**!!

same here. once were out of here. no more mexico paperwork ever!!!
i was thinking of buying a vacation home here.but slowly im not wanting to anymore haha

yeahh! but to postpone it you have to prove a reason why you cant do it
i dunno if applying for permanent residence of another country is a valid reason or not. also that he is common-law to a canada meaning he is leaving the country.

another option is to apply for military and do the training (i think is 3 months) than drop out and ask for the free card. but that just sounds ridiculous to me.

haha yeah we plan to get married in Banff, Alberta in a couple years. ;D

anyways if anyone else has any suggestions on what we can do about this. or if theres anyway to get around it please please pleasee let me know.

we are asking some of our friends to see if they have their cards and how they did pgr if they didnt have it and such.

We got married in mexico and we just had to get a permission from the migration office! it wasn´t that bad...oh except the day we went to pick it up (we absolutely needed it that day...it was like the last day possible to hand it in and I had already called to yell at them because it was several weeks late!!!) the lady printed the letter on the back of another paper for someone else´s stuff!! So then she had to re-print it, but the guy that had to sign it wasn´t there, so we had to wait there for 2 hours till he got there. uhhhh!

I´ve had other paperwork things to do in mexico before and it is insane, wayyyy worse than the permission!!! Maybe I am slowly becoming used to it hahahahaha :(

What about your birth certificate?? That was the worst part. They wouldn't accept mine at first because it didn't have my parents name on it. They literally laughed at my birth cert like it was a joke. And they blood tests were a nightmare. We had to pay extra to get it done privately because at the public place we had to be there at 5am, or they wouldn't do it. We lived far.. with no car.. and it's hard to get a taxi at 4am!! and no busses. Just one thing after the other.. I swear the only reason we got everything in place was because my husband kind of knew the guy marrying us. He had to ask his supervisor to accept my birth certificate, and didn't make us get it certified by the Canadian embassy.
