I was just about the say the same thing, i saw the armoured car thing. i guess its different for people living here with businesses and assests to worry about they want something to make them feel safe and i wouldnt blame them.missmymexi said:I think alot of it is US media hype, but having said that my fiance has seen/heard 4 shootings now in Zapopan over the last couple of months (just outside GDL), one was his neigbour, another couple about 4 blocks away and another in thier area. Although I guess the thing to remember is that you will probably be privy to just as many shootings in any large US city, or canadian city for that matter ( 3 shootings in my neighborhood this year so far in Vancouver). So its all a matter of revelance. Like in Vancouver, much of the violence is targeted and does not affect the average joe, except things like when my mother-in-law couldnt go to walmart because someone had been shot in the parking lot, she just went home and did her shopping later. I have felt just as safe in Mexico as I do here and I find most people will say the same.
Now the interesting thing will be to see what happens with the elections now over, there is a lot of people wanting change, I wouldnt be suprised if you see a bit of a revolution amongst the common people, but thats just my two cents
I have a friend in zapopan aswell. and we were in guadalajara 1 month ago for over a week, and i felt completely safe walking around in the evening, alot of people like to hang out outside.. me being from canada vancouver aswell its weird to see that.(and before i left vancouver there was 2 shootings across the street from my work right downtown) but here people say if you see families outside in the evening, generally the area is safe, because if it wasnt people would be hiding inside their homes after dark.
i think mexico is not as safe as canada, but for an average person i feel safe here and traveling around the country. many of the crimes here are targeted aswell they just have bad aim just kidding!
yeah the election might stir things up a little. ive heard people saying they want a revolution too.. but i also heard that last election and it didnt happen. theres been some protests. anyways lets hope it stays peaceful.
its interesting to see how people feel being in different parts of mexico.
