P.S. Considering all the options in hand, I booked IELTS again for one final last attempt for June 04, 2016. I choose IELTS over PTE Academics because it will be useful in both the countries - Canada and Australia while the target I have in mind is to get 7 or 7+ bands in each of the section.

Hello Guys,

Once I have been the regular person to post in this forum but because of my last IELTS result (gave on October 8th, 2015), I have been very much in fallen state. Reason because just of less 0.5 marks in Writing section, the whole thing got devastated.

My score was -
Overall - 7.5 bands,
Listening - 8.5 bands,
Reading and Speaking - 7.5 bands each
Writing - 6.5 bands (the major culprit).

I even submitted the scores for re-valuation for writing section BUT got no change.

Just because of this 0.5 less score, I loose a straight 53 points in overall points scoring for Canada Immigration.

I am standing currently at 407 points while with 7 bands in each, I will be at 462 points. :( :(

Not only this, but I even consider opting for other country Australia also, but again because of this 0.5 less points, I am not able to my place there too in the pool.

My current total there is 55 points while to get a call from Australian Immigration department, the cut off is 60 points.

Now, what to do??? I am hugely depressed because of this foolishness of both these governments who like to rate us through IELTS while our major experience ("skills") in actual not value to them.

I am thinking again to give IELTS once more (my third try this time) but again I am wondering that whether I will make it or not with a score of 7 bands each in all sections.

1st IELTS - given in July 2015 - overall score 6.5 bands with 5.5 bands in Writing, 8 bands in Listening, 6.5 bands each in Writing and Speaking.

2nd IELTS - given in October 2015 - overall score 7.5 bands with 6.5 bands in Writing, 8.5 in Listening, 7 bands each in Writing and Speaking.

Now the 3rd try?????? Tired of this. Plus putting on money on the test.

Well help me please to get out of this nuisance. Guide me please on how I can score 7 overall. I am planning to go for British Council again (my both first and second IELTS from their only).

Any support will be appreciated.

Thanks
K

Very frustrating I believe. I had same problem with writing. The second time I gave Ielts exam I used transition words and worked on my vocabulary for a while. First time I got 6.5 in writing but the second time I got 8.

Prepare for one last time and give it your best. Hopefully you'll get it.

Good luck

Do not give up hope. You have a good score to get a PT NOI from Ontario. Time and effort spent in the process is an investment towards a better future, it will pay off in the long run. If you are sure that you did writing well, have you considered to request British Council for remarking of your writing score. Even if the remarking gives you 0.5 more for writing, you will be able to achieve the CRS score you are targeting. If the score increases, then you get your money refunded. But the catch is, there is no guarantee that score will be revised.

Re: Mental Support Required - Because Of This Immigration System

Hello Karen,

Well first of all, although I do agree that the way a 0.5 point is ruining it for many people including you and a friend of mine as well as many others, I do think the governments in question have a reason to put such rules and after I experienced the IELTS test, it was pretty obvious as to why such scores in each module is required, makes sense to be honest.

Now as for the IELTS and how you can prepare, apart from the general advice and practice tests available on IETLS' official website(s) ... the following two websites have proven to be very helpful for me and I did get a really good IELTS score from the first attempt (8.5 overall and all levels at max CLB).

www.engvid.com and www.goodluckielts.com

The first one has really good videos with tips about IELTS, including the writing module... they will help you score 7 at least, I scored 8.

Moreover, you can always use the official Cambridge practice exams, but they are a bit expensive...

Regards,

Thanks mate for the response as well as sharing the websites. It will be useful.

I got one question here for you - what do you think how much an average time require to put in per week for per section preparation.

I am currently heading a start-up (an internet media firm) with sitting whole day over the internet.

Thanks again.

Re: Mental Support Required - Because Of This Immigration System

Don't despair over this issue, after all you are only 0.5 points away from your goal. Your English is already very good, you just need to focus a bit more on writing. Aside from actual English skills, IELTS is also very much about learning how to take the test. Since you are already excelling in L, R and S, scoring 7 in W is really within your reach if you put in enough effort and practice. Stay positive, practice writing sections of test samples every day, and you will nail it soon enough.

For Australia you can also take PTE exam, many people scored good in PTE after struggling with IELETS.

Thanks for the suggestion but the thing is that I already put in two efforts in IELTS - I know the pattern, I am aware of each and everything, so don't thinking of putting any chance on any other exam options (as earlier I was thinking of TOEFL too but dropped the idea).

Well let me check and see if it make sense for you.

You are giving PTE Academic or PTE General and do it is valid in both the countries - Canada and Australia?
