Hey!
I came to Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) in January 2012 for my Masters in Oil & Gas Engineering. This forum helped me alot and Ive been out of touch for a couple of months now due to my studies and all (people who have managed to come to Canada must have an idea about it). Anyway, I would be glad to help anyone who wants to know something about MUN.

Tc. Cheers!
Best of Luck to everyone for their Visas! :)
Hi, I have gone through the whole thread.
I intend to apply in MUN's program MEng - Mechanical Engineering or Oil & Gas
My Profile:
B.Eng 68.81% (No backlogs)

Please suggest me my chances, and which discipline should I apply?

Life here is great. You just need to get used to the weather as it changes dramatically. The people are very friendly, one of the nicest you'll come across. St. John's is not a huge city so you can find everything close by, using the buses. The bus stops are almost everywhere and the routes are very well marked. Its peaceful and majestically beautiful. :) .. The whole province is amazingly scenic!!

As per the tuition fee, I guess its because you need to pay your fee in advance before commencing your semester. Thats why its non refundable.

@ Param09:
10th & 12th dont really matter if you're applying for a Masters program. However, you can still fancy your chances of getting into MUN with your profile. Honestly, 67% seems to be average, however, it depends if the Masters Program related Subjects are with good grades in your transcript. Best of luck mate!! :)
Hello Aad As u mentioned $2000 is non refundable what in case if one's visa is rejected will that student get 1sem fee refunded or not please clarify bro

I don't think newforland is good place for students because the weather is too cold 12 monts..and lesser population and lesser jobs you can not get a good job there...you can get very small jobs there like waiters etc..rest is your choice

Umair, is it your personal opinion ? or you have some solid evidence? Please help me, as I am planning to apply there. As far weather is concerned, its same all over Canada, Alberta and Saskatchewan in particular, where students tend to go as a first choice.
I am really concerned about part time jobs there, please help me out in this regard (Senior members as well).

@ LION

I am planning too and worried about same things that you are.
Please share if you get any information regarding this university, part time jobs, visa success rate and what happens after graduation?
I have tried to get some info on this forum either by direct posts or sending personal messages but got no response.

Secondly, which Program are you interested in?
I am interested MEng (Oil & Gas) Course routed.

I am b.com graduate so planning for MBA as MUN has lowest tuition fees and very affordable ;)

I feel its better to do master degree rather than spending for pg diploma in community colleges which is 3 times more than what canadian citizen pays and its hard to get job with pg certificate and with 1 year course we can only get 1 year wrk permit so chances of PR are slim to none.

Where as MUN is rank 18th in Canada and 549 all over the world so its better to do MBA just spending less $ and get 3 years open work permit and hence PR :)

However I too have some questions regarding visa chances, jobs, PR which I mentioned earlier any experts or student of MUN would be great if you guys put some light on this

@LION

Do you have any idea about other low Budget and reputed B-Schools apart from MUN ??

Please let me know as weather would be extreme there so I am not preferring it

@Mayank

Weather in whole Canada is less or equal except British Columbia where you will have lots of sunshine and Newfoundland has not too harsh weather winds speed is more at least its better compare to sask and manitoba where most of indians go to settle.

Apart from MUN I don't exact fees for other B school However then known to be affordable (vary from course to course) you should check

Carleton University
Dalhousie University
Lakehead University
University of Saskatchewan
University of Manitoba

Newfoundland is at the top..you can check and it has got more Chilly temp as compared to down Provinces

Among the Univ one you mentioned

Carleton University
Dalhousie University
Lakehead University
University of Saskatchewan
University of Manitoba

I could find only Lakehead...even Sask is expensive for MBA

I shortlisted few univ like Windsor, Saint mary-Sobey school of business, Univ of Victoria, Univ of Brunswick - feredriction campus

Please share any feedback over them so that i can cut it short further.

According to AccuWeather.com, Today's Temperatures are as:
Calgary: Current -7, (Min -9 Max -5)
Saskatoon: -7 (-16. -4)
St, John's (NF): 8 (8, 11)
Regina: -6 (-9, -3)

I dont know credibility of AccuWeather.com, but this the story :)
