Anyone have any suggestions on what the best place would be to apply for the study permit from, US or India?
I got my acceptance letter from MUN for MASc Energy Systems Engg last month. I am an Indian international student currently finishing up my bachelors at OSU, USA. Depending on what the best option is, I will be applying from here or will go back to India to apply.

I think it's better to apply from the US. If you are back home then you may have to go through a lot of work related to your application. You know how the system is in South Asian countries. They will have no reason to suspect you. But if you apply from India then you are likely to be suspected:
  • The VO may think that how come you are not satisfied with your US degree and that
  • You are not making any difference in your life (financial) with the US degree and
  • They may also consider your application as a route to immigration etc.
To avoid drawbacks it's better to go for it while you are still a legal person in the US. Hope it helps. I am sure you will have a hard time justifying whey you intend to move to Canada after your BS from the US.

Best wishes,

Hello,

I applied for MSc Computer Science course fall 2019. and my application status, still shows under review?
I have not come across any candidates so far who have received application decision, especially in your study area. So wait for it. But do not depend on one option. Diversify your choices as its always better. You never know what will work out for you at the end.

Hello

I've applied for mechatronics engineering. But as it has been put on hold, I recently changed it to communication engineering [PGD]. Me too, waiting for a response. Current application status - Application Processing Has Begun, Incomplete - Items Outstanding.

@codename205

Please, let us know how it goes. Regarding "Incomplete - Items Outstanding" I guess you have some outstanding documents. Double check your sendings. I have had the same status, and it was because of my IELTS report card which was not sent officially. So recheck if you have missing documents. This can impact your application.

References has been submitted and are shown as received in my application, followed by the date of receiving it officially.

Yes. I've requested the IDP [where I've given my IELTS test] to send my official IELTS TRF to MUN and is in way now.
There are two fields left to be received as official.

One is Transcripts. 2nd is confirmation of degree.

I've submit the unofficial documents of my transcripts of 7/8 semesters by mailing them to the grad office [official mail]. I've asked them if my documents can be reviewed if received unofficially. They replied positively that we will still review it while we wait the official documents to reach us. The matter of fact is that I am still in the last semester of my degree and I expect to complete the degree within July 2019 , having 8/8 semester's DMC in my hand and then, I will initiate the request to my institute to send my official documents to MUN, along with the confirmation of degree.

My profile
Btech [Electronics and Communication]
CGPA - 7.78/10 [Till 7/8 semesters] [Equivalent to 69.21%]
Expected to complete [July 2019]

Let me know if this delay will affect my application. Also, let me know any other factors on which I can improve on.

Regards

Since you have not graduated it won't matter until you officially graduate. So don't worry about the outcome. You will receive a decision soon. Also, try your best to send them all they require in a way they prefer.

May I know what doesn't matter here, according to your previous reply?

Also, can you please evaluate my chances according to my profile, for conditional offer.

Country - India

I don't know how to convert my CGPA to GPA.

Regards

What I meant by does not matter is the official sending of your documents. As far as I can tell, you have a pretty good chance of getting accepted. GPA conversion is always a case and Department-specific thing. I am sure you will have no issue in that area.

OK.

May I know what you think about the duration of PGWP [Work Permit] which we can/will get after the course?

The course describe itself as less than 2 years. But, can we make it extended by doing more subjects i.e. the course required 15 credits for this PGD course. Can we do take more subjects to make it more than 2 years to get 3 years of Work Permit.

Let me know your view on this.

Thanks and Regards
