Quick question to anyone that knows, I'm from England and marrying my canadian fiancee in 3 months and we are trying to put together the application in the next 3 months so that we can send it off pretty much straight after we marry.
Meds though, I rang my doctors and they said to get them done after I have applied, but how do I know when to get them done? do the canadian embassy tell me and i know each case is different but just out of curiousity how long does it usually take for meds to be requested for people?

oh and I see on peoples timelines it says docs requests and meds requests. whats the difference?

If you are applying spousal then meds are done before the application (mine were) you have to include the receipt from the DMP with your application.

No for Spousal Applications you do the meds BEFORE filing with a Designated Medical Professional (DMP). Here is a list of DMP for England. http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medicalinfo.aspx?CountryID=1872&CountryName=England You must submit the copy 2 with your application mine was half a sheet of paper and the form was green. It included my photo attached to it. Do not do the medical exam too soon before applying because the results are only good for 1 year and if the application takes longer than you think you do not want to have to redo the exam. The exam is done before the application to speed up the application process. for other PR categories the rules are differnt but for Family class the medical is done before the application. Hope this helps.

Thankyou that helps a lot. good job I asked because the person at the doctors office told me to wait until i'd filed and then the embassy would ask me for my meds so i'd be all wrong if i'd have listened to her.
Thanks again!

Plenty of DMP's give poor advice, it does not help that the requirements differ between different locations ( like the number and type of pictures).

I'm also in England. I'm about to make appointment for a medical. The form says to bring 5 photos taken in the past six months. Can anyone advise please what kind of photos? (Snapshots, passport, etc. )

Thanks

You should ask the specific DMP, I know people who have used passport images and others that have supplied larger images.

On the form that you have to complete to take to the DMP with you it has specifics of the photos you need to take, but they are just normal passport photos, as long as you have them taken properly. I got mine from one of thos passport photo machines at Asda. Just make sure you have your head fully in the circle and measure them to check when they are printed out.

This is because other types of immigrant applications have to get their medicals done after the application is sent in, when the embassy requests it. For spousal sponsorships the medicals are sent in with the application. The DMPs and their office assistants sometimes get the different types mixed up. (So I also wouldn't rely on info from the DMP's secretary as to what type of photos are required!)

Hey All,

From reading this thread I think I may have made a mistake. I am sponsoring my common-law partner. My understaing from the DMP and the Canadian Embassy that will be processing our visa was that the medical was only good for one year, and since it was not going to be sent to CPC mississauga (we are applying outland) that i should only do it after my sponsorship has been approved and the application transfered to our visa office.

From the posts above I am guessing this is a mistake. I just mailed the package yesterday - should I have my partner do his medicals this week and then send them the receipt? How do i make sure that the receipt ends up with our package? I don't have a client code or anything yet.

Please advise.

When you apply outland, the sponsor's application and the applicant's application are sent together to Mississauga. You must include the copy 2 of the medical form, which is the proof the medical was done. Mississauga will check to make sure everything is there, and will then send the whole package to the visa office that is processing your application.
I think when they see that the medical form is missing, Mississauga will send the whole application back to you. Have your partner do his medicals as soon as possible, and then just add it to the package and send it back.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I am going to have my partner do them this week. However, I sent my package only a day ago - which means they have not started processing yet. Should I wait for them to return the entire package to me or just send the missing receipt as soon as he does his medicals. If I take the pre-emptive action of just sending the missing receipt what information should I include in order to have it get matched with out application as we do not have a Client ID.

Hey All,

I just wanted to add to this quickly. I sent my application off to mississauga without the medical receipt. After a few days of panic I received a reply from the Canadian Embassy that will be processing our application (Outland) and they said:

" Your common-law partner can undergo medical examinations anytime during the sponsorship process. The validity of a permanent resident visa starts running for one year from the day he undergoes medical examinations."

If my partner can under go his medicals any time during the process then i don't have to include the receipt in the application I sent to CPC- Mississauga. I don't know if this i region specific advice. But I thought I would share. Fingers crossed they don't send it back to us.

Cheers,
