Just a quick one...

What are the big No No's regarding the medical - are they likely to deny PR for being overweight, or not eating right, 100 % fitness etc?

No, they dont look at your weight as long as when the doctor is examining you, your blood pressure is ok. But other than that it should be ok. Good luck.

There was a problem with blood in my urine, so I had to take a retest. Ensure you drink lots of water a couple of days before your test.

Also, if you smoke, the Doctor in my case did some sorta calculation which when asked he said he needed to calculate exposure?.

Most importantly you have to pass your STD test. Otherwise the questions that are asked are pretty much routine and basic.

No diseases that are a threat to the Canadian public... eg HIV and Tuberculosus.

I thought that for spousal (and perhaps your not so this might not apply) the only real reason they could deny you, was if you were bringing incurable or mass spreadable disease (ie: HIV, STD, TB) - but they couldn't deny you based on excessive demand of the system (ie: cancer).

For spousal, you are exempt from excessive demand so I think even with the HIV one would still be admitted. I think for TB, they still allow you but just need to be treated.

Perhaps, I'm not sure. To me it seems more of a spreadable disease, because well- just because "jack" and "jane" are married today -doesn't mean they always will be, but that's just how I interpreted it I've never read anything that indicates one or the other way.

I believe it is just a blood test for HIV and a urine test for others. My hubby did not need to go through much. Basic eye exam (read the chart from a distance), general physical exam (weight/height/blood pressure/etc), blood, urine, chest xray. Nothing else.

Same with my hubby. Basic physical, blood, urine chest x-ray.

I asked if they were testing anything like blood sugar, cholesterol, etc in the blood and urine test. The lady said "no, basically just STDS"! They checked my vision and basically just asked me if there was anything that would keep me from working and I said 'no'. He felt my stomach and listened to my heart, and I got a chest xray to check for TB.

Thats exactly what mine did. Vision, pushed on my belly, made me squat and stand up, walk to him, felt my glands, HIV, urine and TB xray.

Don't worry about the medical. People being sponsored as a spouse or common-law/conjugal partner are 'excessive demand' exempt. They test you for HIV, but they don't reject you for it. If you have TB, they will want you to get treated, but you will not be rejected for this either.
If you are applying in some other category, for example FSW, then yes, you have to 'pass' the physical - you can be rejected because of your poor health. Sponsored parents and grandparents are often rejected for health reasons. Spouses and partners are safe though.

lol no friend do not worry. being fat is not a crime. we love our mcdonalds and burgerking like our friends in USA.

You can get rejected for having an STD? Does anyone know this for sure?
