Medical for study visa

Hi guys,
I am an Indian citizen who has been living in the Netherlands for the past 5 years. I am moving to Canada to pursue a PhD and I have applied for a study permit.

According to the list of countries provided by Canada: Netherlands does not require a medical exam but India does.

According to this page: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/medical-police/medical-exams/requirements-temporary-residents/country-requirements.html
If you’re applying to become a temporary resident of Canada, you must have a medical exam if you:

  • want to come to Canada for more than 6 months and
  • have lived or travelled for 6 months in certain countries or territories in the year before you come to Canada - Does this mean consecutively living in the country for 6 months in the last year or even a shorter visit?
I have not lived outside Netherlands in the past 5 years, but I did visit India this feb-april for a duration of 2 months and this can be seen from my visa stamps.
Do you think I need to do a medical exam or it is not required?

Sorry completely unrelated. May I ask why would want to shift to Canada frm Netherlands?
I am asking because Netherlands seems like a magical country and so open to immigration.

Cheers

Ya the Netherlands is a great place to live. But I am shifting because I want to pursue a PhD in an area which has more focused research groups in Canada than here.

I dont think the Netherlands seems like a magical country and so open to immigrant from my experience. I have siblings, I lived there shortwhile but i would choose Canada over the NL.

His question was if he’s exempted from medical exams and poster was clearly he/she is applying for phd in Canada, didnt ask about opinion between the two countries….

Hi Actually i did not add an SOP with my initial application. But later, I did add a letter explaining why I am not doing my PhD in Netherlands and why I want to do it in Canada. I dint promise anything about returning to India as such. I just mentioned that there are plenty of opportunities for my field in India as well. And I will look for research/professor Opportunities in India and abroad in general.
