Medical Examination Required Before or After Sending Application?

Hello, I'm a US citizen and my husband is sponsoring me. We're applying outland while we're living inland.

Filling out the application, it seems to say we must have a medical examination completed for me and sent in with the paperwork, however in multiple places online (which I previously used as reference), it says that you have the option to wait for instructions from the CIC, wherein they'll give you 60 days to go complete an exam. I'm really concerned as we can't necessarily afford to re-apply.

Should I book it and get the exam done before sending in my application?

As the checklist indicates, you should submit proof of having gone through the medical exam along with your application. I believe the 60-day deadline only applies to inland applications -or to some of them at least.

So go ahead and book your medicals as close as possible to the date when you think you'll be sending your application. One thing to bear in mind is that some clinics don't really understand the concept of you living IN Canada but needing an upfront medical. Make sure they understand it's an UPFRONT exam and that you get a receipt afterwards, wich should have your picture and a UMI (Unique Medical Identifier).

Good luck.

We sent our medical exam once it was requested by CIC.

I advise against it. I am convinced we would've been done with processing sooner if we had included it.

Find an approved panel physician and get it done and send it with your application. Could end up saving you months of waiting.

Like MissRepresentation says, do your medical exam upfront and send in proof with your application. I would recommend paying your Right of Permanent Residence fee upfront too. Each time they have to stop and send you a letter to say get your medicals, pay your fee, etc, the longer it takes to get your PR.
